Vacation Village at Bonaventure

My husband and I stayed at Vacation Village at Bonaventure from April 21-27, 2007. After the second night, I had a bunch of bugbites; I thought they could be from the mosquitos in Florida. After the third night and I woke up with twice as many bites as I had gone to sleep with, we pulled back the sheets on the bed and found bedbugs. I immediately notified the management; they immediately moved us (good); however, I had to seek medical care and I STILL have not heard back from the manager, Juan Blanco, though we have called him four times. The nurse at local urgent care told me that people have come into the urgent care "frequently" because of bites received there.

When we arrived, we were required to talk to timeshare sales staff to get our parking permit. We signed up for the presentation though we really did try to get out of it. The salesman said that there was no pressure to buy, we would just have a free breakfast and, of course, that was not true at all. But, after the sales staff saw all of my bugbites they backed off of us.

The resort is 25 minutes from Ft. Lauderdale and 60 minutes from Miami, too far for our liking. RCI had indicated that the resort was 15 minutes from the beach; not true.

Best Things About the Resort:

Resort Experience:
It's situated close to Fort Lauderdale and Miami. It's luxury, but we didn't like it very much because it's too big. It looks like a big block of flats. It’s a Gold Crown resort, but we prefer resorts that are quieter. Anyway, it's great to visit the big cities in southeast Florida.

Best Things Nearby:
There are six small plazas nearby where you can get all your food and pharmacy needs for the week, as well as some small places to eat or rent movies. If you wanted, you really wouldn't have to go anywhere else but these plazas in the resort’s shuttle, but within a 10-minute drive, there is the Sawgrass Mills mall, with more shops and restaurants than you need for a week's vacation. If you drive or rent a car, there are numerous malls within a half-hour drive as well.

Best Things About the Resort:
The resort is very quiet, with six pools and many activities, and only a few have a small cost. The resort is new, and the rooms were very large and had beautiful views. There was lots of friendly staff and parking, and the best thing was that even though we went into the hustle-and-bustle of Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, or Key West most days, it was wonderful coming back to the calmness of the resort!

Resort Experience:
The resort has many buildings and six pools. The one-bedroom unit we had was all tile and very handicap accessible. There were two elevators and a garbage chute for your garbage. There was a large-screen TV and VCR in the main room, which also had a large glass dining table with six chairs, a couch, and two love seats. The patio was large with 4 chairs and a table. The kitchen was well equipped with dishes, a dishwasher, microwave, blender, stove, and sink. There was no dish soap, though. There were laundry rooms on each floor, not each unit. We had no trouble getting our laundry done. The bedroom had a small TV, two nightstands, and a dresser. There was a LARGE Jacuzzi tub as well as a large closet and safe in the room. The bathroom had a single sink, toilet, and tub/shower with very low water pressure.

The pools all have nice showers there. There is also a fair-size kid’s pool. The two pools at Weston both have fountains, which is nice, and there is also a hot tub for adults. Weston offers 15 minutes Internet and a gym. Cleaning service is once a week.

Too many to name them all, but the beaches, Sawgrass Mills Mall, the Everglades, and the Fort Lauderdale nightlife will keep you busy for the week. Day trips to Miami or the Keys are also doable.

Best Things About the Resort:
The rooms are great. We had six in our party, so we had two units, A and B. Both units were private one-bedrooms with a pullout sofa in a separate sitting area. The A unit also had a large jacuzzi tub in the bedroom, in addition to a large bathroom with a walk-in shower. The pool was large, with plenty of lounge chairs. There were plenty of activities planned by the resort, but all of our other activities limited our ability to experience these.

Resort Experience:
The resort was great. There was plenty of space and privacy. Many things to do at the resort and within an hour of the resort. There was golf and tennis nearby, but since this was more of a family vacation, I did not check these out. There was more than a week's worth of activities in Fort Lauderdale alone. We also drove up to Palm Beach to Rapids Water Park for a day, which was great also. Florida is a bit more humid than California, so we opted for as many water-related activities as possible.

Sawgrass Mills Mall is about 5 minutes away, 30 minutes from Miami, and Ft. Lauderdale is 20 minutes away, Orlando is about 3 hours away, and you're 5 minutes from a shopping plaza with a large supermarket.

Best Things About the Resort:
We did not spend a lot of time at the resort, but our room had a Jacuzzi, a full-size kitchen, free video rentals, a pool, and nice, sizeable balcony.

Resort Experience:
This is our home resort, and we bought it on this trip. It is a great, luxurious resort in a great location--a car is a must to enjoy the area. There are lots of activities to do within driving distance. New modern resort, new appliances, well-equipped kitchen.
