The rooms at the hotel were great. I had a great view of the all the small boats and cruise ships entering and leaving Charlotte Amalie. I have stayed at the hotel at least a dozen times and know many of the employees there. The ease of traveling between the hotel and Charlotte Amalie is great using the water shuttle. It is a geat experience traveling on the boat seeing all the homes as well as the cruise ships that have come in for the day. The only disadvantage using the water shuttle is that when you return from Charlotte Amalie, you have to climb approximately 80 steps. This can be a challenge if you are carrying alot of items or if you have health problems. It might be better to take a cab from Vendor's Plaza in Charlotte Amalie to the hotel if either one of these things exists.
Many members of the hotel's staff have been there for over 10 years. The majority of the staff do their best to make the guests satisfied. At times service may appear to be slow, but that is how the natives are. Those people expecting the hotel employees to rush things are in for a surprise. They would rather do things slowly and correctly rather than quick and make mistakes.
The hotel was almost full since St. Thomas celebrated the 50th Aniversary of their yearly festival called Carnival. Also the aircraft carrier USS Washington was in St. Thomas and many of the high officers were staying at the hotel. The carrier has just completed operations off Puerto Rico and was on the way back to it's home port. This was the first time in a number of years that a carrier visited St. Thomas in a number of years. The view of the carrier from my room's window and balcony were great.
The hotel's property was kept up very well. The only exception was in the Sunset Pool area where many of the chairs had torn seat cushions and some umbrellas were also torn. Hopefully the hotel will replace or repair these items since this is one area that has spectacular views. Many hotel guests gather here to watch the cruise ships depart after their day in St. Thomas.
