Best Things Nearby:
This is a huge outdoor enthusiast's paradise! We spent each day of our seven-day vacation experiencing a new adventure and left many sights and activities unexplored. Summer activities include mountain biking (beginner to expert), hiking, rollerblading, skateboarding, rock climbing, horseback riding, fishing, canoeing/kayaking, skiing/snowboarding (expert only), golfing, ATV/motorcycling. The Blackcomb Adventure center is a haven for kids aged 8-80 and really shouldn’t be missed. Basically, if it can be done outside, the Whistler/Blackcomb area is well equipped to meet your needs. Indoor athletics are also accommodated at the community center, which has a well equipped gym, large pool, and ice rink.
The area restaurants run the gamut from simple to exquisite.
Several high-end spas also offer full treatment services, which you’ll find very useful after a day of hard play.
Best Things About the Resort:
Ironwood is located approximately 1.5km from Whistler Village. Far enough to remove you from the bustle of the busy areas and enjoy a relaxing evening of beautiful views in a peaceful setting. It’s also close enough to easily walk to the Village for dinner or a day of activities. Our unit was very spacious, elegantly appointed, and is one of two units with a private spa.
Resort Experience:
We had a fabulous vacation experience! The Whiskey Jack resorts use a central check-in facility in Whistler Village. The front desk staff is very helpful and friendly. They made us feel welcome immediately, answering all of our questions and helping us understand the available activities in the area. Whistler is a resort village, so I expected to receive several invitations for timeshare pitches, but pleasantly, I received only one low-key offer. I suppose at such a great location, the area sells itself, so we were free to enjoy our time there.
Ironwood is in a great location with easy access to the Village and activities. There is a bus stop located immediately across the street from the front entrance. However, I recommend that you bring or rent a bicycle for the week. The area has an extensive paved trail network which can take you anywhere in only minutes.
There are no on-site scheduled activities at Ironwood. Young children may get restless quickly. The rec. room is only equipped with a ping-pong table, and the pool is on the small side. Our unit was very well appointed, even though the furniture is beginning to show its age--everything functioned well. The weather was on the cool side--50s and 60s--and the week we there (last week of June) is before the official opening of summer activities (1 July, Canada Day). It all combined to minimize the crowds during the week, which was really appreciated.
This is a great resort, and I highly recommend it for the outdoor enthusiast or for a romantic getaway.
