Hotel Sebastian is small, sophisticated, well-managed hotel in New Town. Everything about the Hotel Sebastian was memorable... for me, perhaps it had something to do with the fact that it was the location for what felt like my first 'real' shower in Ecuador for nearly 3 months -- a 15 minute routine with gushing, scalding hot water. I recall feeling giddy and guilty from the experience, as I had been showering under less frivolous circumstances in Cuenca. Quite unusual is that the hotel filters its water -- its probably one of the few in Quito that do, so you can even drink from the tap. I stayed in the hotel on two separate occasions with my parents and siser -- before and after our family trip to the Galapagos. Consequently, I saw four different double rooms, all of which were consistently very spacious and in excellent condition.
The beds were especially comfy (I appreciated this in particular, after the Tip Top II bunks). All of our rooms were quiet at night despite being close to a big restaurant/bar area off Amazonas, and many of the rooms have small balconies on Almagro. Rooms were nicely appointed with things like cherry credenzas and built-in wardrobes. The staff was very attentive and spoke a variety of languages. Mistral, the Hotel's restaurant had quite a nice breakfast with local fruits & cheeses, fresh jugos (juices) and excellent coffee. (It's a little hard to come by a great cup of coffee ironically enough in Ecuador, so this is actually quite a find). The restaurant was also good for a snack -- they had a tasty rendition of my favorite Ecuadoran soup, Locro de Papas. The Sebastian made a favorable impression on all of us and it seemed really resonably priced for its luxurious quality. I would love to stay there again!
