The hotel is clean, has a friendly staff, and is in a good location. It's basic, but it's cheap. There's a restaurant attached to the hotel that is pretty much the only source of drinking water, but if you're in Mexico, you kinda expect that. It does every sort of egg dish you could ever want, coated in the green sauce you'll learn to enjoy, if not distrust slightly.

There's one BIG problem with this place - there's a popular nightclub in the basement, and it's extremely noisy at weekends, but if you ask for a room at the top of the hotel, you should be cool - we were.

I arrived at this hotel after a 16 hour journey halfway across the world and it wasn't great. The rooms ARE clean. However the toilet didn't work, and the whole atmosphere wasn't comfortable. We didnt have a lock to put on the door and I was, quite frankly, scared. I would consider staying there again at the end of my trip, but after a long journey I personally feel the need for comfort and a good nights sleep, which I did not get at Hotel Isabel.

I have never actually stayed here, but I always put my friends and colleagues up at this place. It's one of a kind. It's an old 4 or 5 story place in the heart of the Centro Historico. D.H. Lawrence used to slum around at the turn of the century here. You still see loads of artists, foreigners, bohemians, philosophers, writers, and creative types. The atmosphere is relaxed. The place is clean and very friendly. There is always someone who speaks english and the restaurant kind of knows what a vegetarian is. A true rarity in Mexico. It's very open minded. I could tell you some stories I have gone on down there, but I might need a lawyer first. The bar is great fun as well and open till around 2...or if there is a crowd they just stay open till whenever. You can get a room on the roof, the cheapest and most young people oriented and watch the sun rise and set over the mountains. And it's so cheap. It's truly amazing. They do have hot water, room safes, and a very sharp staff. Just a damn good place to stay. Oh yeah the best part is the prices range from something like 16 to 25 us dollars a night.
