Hotel Splendid

Note: The address of the hotel has changed to Thierschstrasse 49. It is only about 500 yards from their previous location.

When it comes to charming, the Hotel Splendid has it down to a science. Located a little off the beaten track, you know you are in for something special as soon as you see the impressive exterior.
Service began the minute we walked in the door. The staff here was very friendly. Though, and I don't think this is really significant, none of the service people were German, most were Russian. We got to know most of them quite well and they made our visit extra special.
Our room looked out onto the Maximillian Strasse. The tram ran right beneath our window but the sound was not disturbing. We had a queen size bed and an antique table. Our room was simple but clean and the other rooms that I saw were fancier than ours (I asked the chambermaid if I could peek into some of the other empty rooms and she said yes). Our bathroom was small but had a large tub and all the amenities that we needed. We asked for extra pillows and got them (feather). Like all our other accommadations, we had feather comforters. We were very snug.
Sunday morning I awoke to the smell of coffee and toast. Not a bad thing. There is an small dining room where breakfast is served (it is buffet but not included) and where you can get a drink or a pot of coffee or tea and a snack in the afternoon.
We loved this place. It is just so warm and friendly. Our friends had a suite and it was on the 5th floor and was really quite large. They were overlooking the Marian Kirche which is in the rear of the hotel. You could hear the bells from their room. Our room was up a flight of stairs but theirs was reached by elevator.
The only down side to staying here is that it is quite a walk to the Marienplatz and there are very few restaurants in the area. However, the warmth and the comfort are hard to resist.
