Great Value, Friendly Staff

I stayed here with a friend in 2004. We loved the quirkiness of this place, and the proximity to the old city with the funny little laneways and interesting things to eat, buy and see. It cost us $6 aussie dollars a night for a double room.....the fact that the water from the shower hit the toilet seat only made it more lovable. I liked waking up to the sound of chai-wallahs and the smell of onions and garlic frying, and not being sure if I'd get a hot shower. Yet, if I wanted a hot chocky at 11 pm, I'd usually get it, and with a smile and a chat. Prefer this over somewhere in Thamel, any day.

For $4 US per night you get a nice balcony and private bath. This hotel is set back from the main avenue and its cheif asset therefor is budget peace and quiet. It is also a very couple-freindly zone and most people staying in this hotel are western couples. The private bath is relatively quiet and the rooms 101, 201, 301, and 401 have private balconies that are a nice place to sit outside in silence if that is what you seek. The Diyalo Restaurant has great pancakes and passable entrees. The mixed salad is also standout. People actually come from other hotels in the area to eat here. The hotel plays movies (quietly) every eneing at 7:30 for free in the inside dining room. The staff at the hotel are freindly and try to chat me up at every opportunity. They are also more than willing to help tourists try to learn some Nepali phrases.
