Annapurna View Lodge

  • March 23, 2006

This mountain lodge is situated in the largest village in Annapurna - Ghandrung. It has a big garden, with a spectacular view of the Fishtail Peak. The rooms are basic but comfortable. However, the hot water in the shower was very cold, and the cold water, needless to say, was as cold as ice. The most memorable moment in this lodge was the star-gazing at night. Due to the location of this lodge, with lots of open space, we could almost see the whole galaxy staring down at us.

For $4 US per night you get a nice balcony and private bath. This hotel is set back from the main avenue and its cheif asset therefor is budget peace and quiet. It is also a very couple-freindly zone and most people staying in this hotel are western couples. The private bath is relatively quiet and the rooms 101, 201, 301, and 401 have private balconies that are a nice place to sit outside in silence if that is what you seek. The Diyalo Restaurant has great pancakes and passable entrees. The mixed salad is also standout. People actually come from other hotels in the area to eat here. The hotel plays movies (quietly) every eneing at 7:30 for free in the inside dining room. The staff at the hotel are freindly and try to chat me up at every opportunity. They are also more than willing to help tourists try to learn some Nepali phrases.
