Palm Beach Shores Resort

We work in Manhattan--professional couple. We live in a expensive home in a exclusive area. That's so you know what standards we look for. The location of the resort is incredible, right on the beach. It is a short drive to five-star restaurants.

It's immaculate, the staff are courteous, the hotel is safe and the amenities are great. There's live entertainment daily, good drinks, good food, heated pool. The Palm Beach Shores resort is in a class by itself. However, if you're out to impress people by staying at "Four Seasons" you can do that. Otherwise, this Resort can compete with them and you'll be more than satisfied.

Best Things Nearby:
Ocean/beach, Clematis Street and City Place for shopping, and Palm Beach (also makes for a wonderful hour of driving to see the beautiful mansions along the ocean)

Best Things About the Resort:
This resort is built right on the ocean. While you could swim in the outdoor pool, you could also just go a few steps farther, cross a little bridge, and walk the sandy beach to the Atlantic! Besides that, the resort is completely refurbished, so everything is in excellent condition and they thought of everything you might need or want.

Resort Experience:

We stayed in a one-bedroom unit that was impressively and tastefully decorated. The bathroom is one of the biggest we have had at any resort, which comes in handy when there are three women in a room! We took advantage of the full kitchen and ate a few meals in the room and were very happy with the supplies provided. On the resort, there is a grocery store, full salon and spa, very large and complete workout facilities, and a beautiful outdoor pool and hot tub. They even have a childcare facility!

Obviously the best thing about the resort is the beach only steps away. You do have to pay to rent the chairs and umbrellas, but you could always just roll out a towel and lie right down! There were many groups on the beach that were offering the opportunity to pay for various water sports: parasailing, kayaking, jet skiing, etc. We purchased a few water noodles and body surfboards at the local Ocean Mall and enjoyed the ocean. The water was clear and beautiful, and while the beach was packed, there was still enough room for everyone!

Our major complaint was the sales pitches. At the time we stayed in 2001, they were going on constantly, and the resort offered activities that were actually thinly veiled attempts to sell another timeshare. We found that we needed to avoid a lot of the staff to bypass these sales pitches, and we even found that we didn’t want to answer the phone because they would inevitably be calling to invite us to participate in yet another selling session. But, if you can avoid all that, you can truly have an enjoyable and relaxing stay at this resort!

Palm Beach on-site, Palm Beach Kennel - Dog Races, Morikami Museum and Gardens, West Palm Beach district, City Place.

Best Things About the Resort:
Not much. Most things were dirty, and the SPA was a joke. The Tiki bar was usually empty, and the on-site restaurant was pretty cheap looking.

Resort Experience:
The one bedroom unit that we received was at best adequate, but at a quick glance, the two bedroom suites were much, much larger and more spacious. I know, I basically stated the obvious, but the one bedroom that we were in was not as spacious as other resort one bedroom units. My suggestion, if you are planning on booking this resort, read closely and take a look at others in the area. I'm just sorry for the people who actually exchanged their "deposited week" or purchased an "Extra Vacation" for $842 for this unit. Man, that would have sucked! I purchased an "Extra Vacation" for C$179, and I'm still not too happy with it. You can call me ungrateful, but I guess I'm just used to high-quality locations and resorts.

Beach - Restaurants - Marina

Best Things About the Resort:
More of a hotel than a timeshare. All amenities needed. Rooms well furnished and new. Right on beach - with pool too.

Resort Experience:
Resort had everything one needs. Well-maintained, activites galore, staff friendly and helpful. Restaurant on-site - room service available. Fresh towels daily-full service midweek. Wonderful place to spend a week.

One complaint might be assorted charges - $1/day for room safe, $5/day for parking (plus valet tips), and $10/hour or $30/day for beach chairs and umbrella. Somewhat outlandish - however, buying your own and bringing them was not a problem.
