Summer Bay Resort

I thought I was staying on the Summer Bay Resorts property, as I was told by the booking agent from the resort as I planned my trip. I was traveling with them to explore the possibility of purchasing a timeshare on their property. However, I was unpleasantly surprised to learn, once I arrived, that my family and I were staying across the street at a "roach" (literally) motel. When I brought my complaint and discomfort to their attention, they informed me that they have no control and it wasn't them but their marketing company that put me there. If I wanted to move onto the property, I’d have to pay an additional $260 to stay. I am a single mom who was traveling on a budget and didn't have it budgeted to have to spend more to enjoy my family vacation, which I thought was at a resort. I would caution anyone who is considering traveling with them and exploring purchasing. Their resort is beautiful, but apparently, it is VERY unlikely that you will stay on the property unless you are an owner. I will never travel with them and will continue to discourage friends/family from it as well.

Best Things Nearby:
5 miles from Disney, WalMart and Publix just blocks away.

Best Things About the Resort:
The water was the absolute best! We swam at the Clubhouse pool, rented jet skis and small power boats at the lake... All I can say is, wow!

Resort Experience:
The resort is most certainly worth the Gold Crown status. The staff was great, and the amenities and activities offered was awesome! I think I have a new favorite resort when it comes to Orlando.

Best Things Nearby:
Disney World, Universal Studios, MGM, Sea World, and the town of Celebration.

Best Things About the Resort:
Very nice pool area that is good for adults and children. There is a bar located at the pool and a snack bar close by. Also a kiddie pool. Nice lake, although we did not uset it.

Resort Experience:
We had a very bad initial experience at the resort. My wife, 5-month-old child, and I checked into Summer Bay Resort in the evening. We discovered the unit was infested with ants and asked to be moved. The staff was not accommodating at all. Eventually, they directed us to a new unit that did not exist. We spent an hour looking for the unit with the staff refusing to help us. Our next unit smelled awful, the bathroom sink did not work, and the fire alarm went off periodically throughout the night. We moved one last time to another unit that had ants again (not as bad) and smelled of smoke, but we dealt with it at that point.

I found the staff and management to be very uncaring, with terrible customer service.

Other than the issue with service and the bug infestation, the pool was very nice and the remainder of the grounds were nice. The location was close to Disney World and the other area attractions.

Summer Bay Resort

Best Things Nearby:
The theme parks, and it was close to all major highways, shopping, and attractions

Best Things About the Resort:
Friendly staff, beautiful landscaping, very nice rooms, and within walking distance from amenities

Resort Experience:
We always like to exchange to somewhere new when we go to Orlando. This one sounded nice and didn't disappoint. I liked it here more than Orange Lake; it was not as big, but they were much friendlier. The landscaping is lovely, the roads are easy to navigate, and it’s a great spot for short walks. On a small lake, it allows some of the local wildlife (herons) to visit right under your window!

The two-bedroom we stayed in was very comfortable. Either bedroom would do just fine, but the master had a lovely Jacuzzi tub. The balcony was the perfect seating area for beautiful sunsets and dining (if the weather had been a little warmer). I wouldn't hesitate to return here.

Everything - Disney, Universal, etc.

Best Things About the Resort:
Loaded with activities for families. Friendly, helpful staff, well-maintained, and nicely heated pools.

Resort Experience:
Nicely appointed two-bedroom units, very clean and well-maintained. Has a sandy beach on a small lake which adds great ambience in the evening for the well-heated clubhouse pool. Excellent staff, loads of activites -- shuffle board, volleyball, tennis, mini-golf, bicycling, water sports, kids' activity centre, and playground. Free shuttle to and from Disney, which is quite close. Although we've been in some larger and more luxurious rooms in the past, overall, for a family -- we brought 4 kids from 8 months to 7 years old -- this is the best RCI Rsort we've ever been to.
