Best Things About the Resort:
Our unit is spacious and comfortably furnished. It is a short walk or bicycle ride from beaches. An outdoor pool area includes a hot tub, sauna, picnic tables, and gas grills. Two bicycles are included with the unit. There are lots of organized activities for all ages.
With the full kitchen and numerous free or almost free activities very close by, it is possible to enjoy Hilton Head Island on a budget of little more than the cost of accommodations and food.
Resort Experience:
Southwind Villas are two-story condos in Shipyard Plantation. They include a jacuzzi, stereo system, VCR, back porch with table and chairs, fully outfitted kitchen, and laundry room. The villas provide easy access to the beach, golfing, bicycling, shopping, and swimming.
They are generally well kept, but we were somewhat disappointed with maintenance and housekeeping on this trip. There were no major problems, but there were several minor matters about which we had to call. Our impression is that this is primarily a management issue, in that maintenance and housekeeping staff don''t seem to be given sufficient time or resources to do a consistently thorough job.
