Description: This YMCA is one of my top 5 all time best hostels in the whole world.
The dorm room is EXTREMELY clean and airy which is very unusual for Hong Kong because space is at its highest premium there. The bathroom sparkles and is spotless (well, unless you have some dirty roomates of course).
Location is perfect. It is just 2 blocks off the Star Ferry and bus terminal. If you ever feel hungry at 3 a.m. in the morning, just walk a couple blocks from the back side of the building and you will find many late night eateries. Don't worry, Hong Kong is safe to walk anywhere anytime of the day. Better yet, this YMCA sits at one of the prime real estate locations of Kowloon.
And then the killer view. Because the dorm rooms are pretty high up in the building, you have a commanding view of Hong Kong city from the hallway. Yeah, sorry to say that "from the hallway only", you are paying for a dorm room, so you won't get your private balcony view. However, it is still a perfect location to watch the New Year's firework.
Now the downers. Because it is so popular and they don't have many dorm beds, you have to book a few weeks ahead. For Christmas and New Year stay, you probably should book at least 3 months in advance. Sometimes, you may get lucky and have a bed in walk-in basis. Then, they don't have any online booking system for dorm. You have to write them an email to request for a reservation. Finally, it is not cheap at all, about US$30-35 per bed per day.
