We were greeted at Hotel Urania by the manager of the hotel, who had been there for over 30 years. We were given a key of the very old style that's still in use here. The hotel was neat, clean, and orderly, much like everything else in this society.
We stepped into the narrow, slow elevator and went up to our room, which was overdone with older furniture. There were bare-bulb, candlestick-style lamps beside the beds. The dark-colored bathroom had no bath tub and the shower stall didn't have a shower curtain so water got all over the floor every time we took a shower.
The breakfast included with the room was served from 8 to 10am and consisted of unflavored yogurt, cereal, rolls, sliced deli meat, sliced cheese, packaged soft cheese, orange juice, cold and hot milk, coffee, and tea.
We met a family who said that other hotels they''d seen cost more than this one. The hotel and the staff certainly have character and everyone was gay-friendly. The evening front desk clerk certainly has a very colorful background, being adopted by his stepfather at a young age before the stepfather then disappeared to serve as a missionary in Africa.
