"I’ve rented a dollhouse!" I thought, as I passed under the arbor and into Marshview Cottage’s back yard. Marshview’s more than just a name, too--the master bedroom, kitchen, living room and screened-in porch all have lovely views of Nauset Marsh and, in the distance, the Atlantic Ocean. The cosy gray-shingled cottage has two bedrooms (one with a queen bed, one with two twins) and one bath with a shower. It’s immaculately kept and charmingly decorated (check out the soapstone sink and barn board wainscoting in the eat-in kitchen and the quilts on the beds). When I arrived, there were freshly cut flowers, a card, and a bottle of wine awaiting me on the kitchen table--a lovely bonus, considering that the kitchen contains china, silver, and everything else you need to cook and eat, so that all you need bring for a relaxing vacation is food and linens. Marshview also has a gas grill and central air--the latter a rarity on the cape. It’s located on Route 6 in Eastham, 2 miles above Orleans (which contains nice restaurants and shops, as well as two supermarkets) and 2 miles below the entrance to the National Seashore.
The property’s helpful owners live in a house on site and will be happy to help you with any questions you have about places to go and things to do--if you can tear yourself away from the screen porch and the tranquil view, that is.
