Villa Philadelphia is a wonderful place to escape to. It architectural design provides you with both intimacy and privacy. In front of the Hotel is Bobby's Cafe with its patio and small waterfall. There is a terrace above the cafe as well which gives you some intimacy. In the back of the building is the hotel: six rooms total - 4 on the first floor and 2 on the second. Each room is nice sized and cozy, a modern bathroom with plenty of hot water. In front of each room is the terrace. The Terrace is completely open on the second floor with spectacular views of the Black Sea. The first floor terrace is divided into sections with lattice - giving you privacy, but also a feeling of openness. The one thing I really liked about the place is that the rooms are in the back - giving you a sense of privacy and the small garden in the courtyard adds a great touch to the place. There is a cafe and internet access on the premises with a lovely patio in the front of the building where we had our breakfasts - many flowers and plants. The beach is about a 8 minute walk from the place. The Veleka river is nearby with its many hiking trails. The hosts, Bobi and Margi, were helpful in suggesting day outings and help us post our postcards as well. Beyond being excellent hosts, they speak English and have a great sense of humour to boot!

Best Things Nearby:
Location is everything here--you're in Scottsdale!
Best Things About the Resort:
Good place to use as a homebase. The resort itself tries to be one with lots of on-site activities, but they pale in comparison to a "destination resort."
Resort Experience:
This "resort" is more like a typical townhome complex. Other than the fact that it has a pool--a necessity in Scottsdale--nice tennis courts, and a fair exercise room/spa, it has little else.
- Unit Type: Studio
- Activities: Poor
- Amenities: Fair
- Unit Satisfaction: Good
- Family Friendliness: Very Good
- Service: Good

We stayed in a 1 bedroom (private) with a very large loft, which very easily slept our two children. There were 2 baths, a full kitchen facility and a great room. It was decorated in a beatiful soft Southwestern theme, and was extremely clean. We have been there twice and would not hesitate to return.

We camped along the trail but we did stay at 4 Bed and Breakfasts for a treat: Brae Briar B&B, Headwaters Hideaway B&B, Mulmur House B&B, and Ravenna B&B. Each was unique and delightful - a welcome respite from the trail.

Scottsdale Condominium

The Scottsdale Condos are a very well-kept secret that I am about to let you in on. There are 200 units in the complex. Some folks live there full-time but a lot of the units are owned by retired snowbirds from Minnesota who live here just through the winter. And then there are some units, from studios up to 2-bedrooms that are available for rent through the winter months.
Depending on size and degree of décor updates, the typical monthly rent would be $800 - $1200 for the in-season months of January thru March. To keep the place from feeling like a motel, there is a minimum one-month rental requirement. At those prices, it’s worth it to rent a condo for the month even if you only stay 2 weeks! Rental availability is made known by word of mouth or a posting on the community bulletin board. Many people come back year after year, staying anywhere from 1-3 months. Rents drop as low as $600 for the months of November, December and April.
There are 2 pools; one heated, one unheated and a hot tub. The grounds are meticulously maintained and (this is important) green! I absolutely love the desert but my eyes crave some bold color every now and then.
The regulars are friendly but unobtrusive. There is a mix of ages; it is not exclusively retired folks.
Some of the 2nd floor units have a beautiful view of Camelback Mountain. Small pets are allowed in 1 of the 3 buildings.
The location is nice – 20 minutes from the airport, a few blocks from ‘Old Town’ (tourist shops, art galleries, restaurants) and Fashion Square Mall (2-story mall that spans 2 city blocks) and fairly easy access to freeways. Despite the proximity to all this; the buildings are situated in a way that creates the feeling of being away from it all, especially when lounging at the pools.
Of course there are other lodging options. Scottsdale boasts numerous 5-star resorts, such as The Camelback Inn or the Phoenician Resort.
Or you could get a good room for under $100 just outside of Old Town at the EconoLodge or Ramada Inn. The last time I stayed at the Ramada Valley Ho (I swear to you, they actually call it that!) we got a perfectly adequate double for $68.00.
