Description: The Athens Gate Hotel is probably rated a three star for quality of the rooms. I was a bit disappointed with the decor and furnishings, but as we were only there for 2 nights it was fine.
There are a number of selling features for this hotel:
* Proximity to the Plaka -this is Athens pre-eminent shopping and eating mecca. We were able to walk down Syngrou Street to the Plaka in about 10 minutes.
*The View -our room faced the very busy Syngrou Street, however the wiew of the Temple of Zeus literally across the road quickly dispelled any disatisfaction we had with the noise. The noise is hard to avoid ANYWHERE in Athens, anyway.
*The Roof-Top Restaurant -No words to describe this. On top, there is a lovely open air restaurant open for dinner only. Arrange in advance to have a table facing the Acropolis during sunset. You will be treated to spectacular views and perhaps the light show on scheduled evenings. You can also get fantastic photos from this vantage point...have your travel companions take photos of you with the Acropolis in the background. Fantastic shots!
