Youth Hostel

I have stayed in this unique youth hostel twice: in 1984 and in 2006, and both times it was quite an adventure! This youth hostel has two accommodation facilities: you can sleep either on the boat or in the main building right across the street. Sleeping on the boat is fun, but you just cannot be claustrophobic—everything is very narrow, plus they only have bunk beds there! No single rooms available, double rooms or dormitories with 6 or 10 You can rent linens and towels, and can book extra breakfast (see my restaurant tips!), the reception is open 24/7 and the staff is very friendly! The location is the absolute +++ plus of this accommodation: right across from Gamla Stan and within walking distance to most of Stockholm's sights! The af Chapman might be towed away for renovation from August 2006—so check that out beforehand!

Good, pleasant environment. We stayed on the ship. It was very clean and furnished nicely. The only problem was that the wood floor is noisy. But still, highly recommended.

They were basic dormitory-style with a shared bathroom and bunk beds. The cool thing about this place was that it's on the water. Your windows are portholes! When I go back to Sweden, I would probably stay at a hotel or resort, but for those on a budget who don't mind sharing space with strangers, this was a cool place. Good location as well.
