Amandari

Amandari is definately one of the best resorts in Bali, and probably the world. The service is great, the interior is beautiful and it's peaceful. The food has gotten better in the last few years. It only takes about 10-15 minutes to drive to town, but it is located right next to some rice terraces, and it quiet. It also overlooks the Ayung river, where tourists go white water rafting; but it's still quiet. It has been designed like a Balinese village, and the villas are homely. There are only 30 of them so you tend to get a lot of privacy. I've stayed there quite a few times and my favourite villa was the one right at the end; a two storey suite with a swimming pool, overlooking the terraces. The swimming pool is probably Amandari's trademark. It looks as though the people swimming in it are going to fall over the end. Many hotels now use that design, but I would say that Amandari was the first to have it. They offer many activities for the guests such as walking around a Balinese village, or trekking through the rice terraces. For X'mas and New Years they always have a special dinner and traditional dance (kecak). The staff here are definitely one of the best in the world.
