Best Things Nearby:
The San Diego Animal Park is close by and a lot of fun. The train ride through the park is about 1 hour, so if you have little ones, they may get restless. We went midday, and it was very hot and the animals were not moving around much. An early evening trip would probably be better. The snacks were very expensive and not worth the money. If you can take your own snacks, you will be better off.

Best Things About the Resort:
Since my last visit to this resort, they have added more amenities. They now have six swimming pools, a water slide, and a small water park for the kids.

Resort Experience:
The resort is great, and most the units are right on the golf course. The scenery is beautiful. I love the shops at the resort, and the Broadway theater has some great shows. You are close enough to drive to San Diego, Carlsbad, or even Palm Springs. There are some great outlet malls on the way to Palm Springs.

Another fun place to check out is Temechula. It is in between Palm Springs and the resort and has some wineries and some fun places to eat. It is an easy day trip.

Resort Experience:
We were disappointed with the resort on a daily basis. Having stayed at Lawrence Welk Desert Oasis in Palm Springs on another occasion, we expected the same level of service. Yet the service at the Resort Villas was not near the quality of Desert Oasis. For example, the concierge at the Desert Oasis knew everything about the area, the concierge in Escondido doesn't know where any of the golf courses are! Moreover, the majority of the waitresses in the restaurant are unpleasant, to say the least; particularly so when my two 20 year olds went to eat by themselves. The suite itself was very beautiful, but it was lacking kitchen items, and the dishwasher wasn't working properly. The king size bed was very nice; however, someone needs to tell hotel owners that they do make king size fitted sheets!! It is detestable to sleep in a king size bed and have the unfitted bottom sheet wrinkling underneath you! Particularly when you do not have maid service each day!

We were told that the hotel pool and hot tub were open until midnight, yet it was cold and chained up when we went to use it. Others were told that the hot tub beside the waterslide was open until eleven, yet the gates were chained when they came to use it.

Grocery shopping is quite a distance and you can't just "run to the store" for something. The market in the resort is sorely lacking for supplies. For example, the resort provides bar-b-ques, but I couldn't get hamburger buns or buns of any sort from the market! Moreover, the bar-b-que in our area was not working the night we tried to make hamburgers.

This is one of those resorts that is considered so highly desirable that non-memers can only go once every 4 years. That, in itself, sets my expectations for the type of resort it will be and the service it will provide. I was sorely disappointed when it did not meet my expectations.

WILD ANIMAL PARK! No contest! The best view of San Diego goes to the Cabrillo Monument. The best collection of cacti goes to the Mission San Rey.

Best Things About the Resort:
It's quiet and peaceful. We were looking for a time to relax and just air out our brains.

I liked that they had everything there on site from restaurants (ice cream to fine dining), specialty shops, tours, dinner theater, and activity centers.

Resort Experience:
The Welk Resort is nestled in the side of a mountain. Although it is off the beaten path, it is also out of the traffic and mess that is the California roadways.

It is definitely a top-notch resort. The rooms are well decorated and stocked. The resort staff is pleasant and accommodating. There is a beautiful golf course and the grounds are well kept. They are about to open what looks like a really cool pool; it was under construction when we were there, but it looks like it will be great. We enjoyed everything.

Live theater on the resort, three golf courses, Old California Restaurant Row, Temecula wine country, San Diego Zoo, Balboa park, Seaport Village, Coronado Island, Oceanside, and Harrah's Casino on Rin Con reservation.

Best Things About the Resort:
The accommodation was superb, and the location and spaciousness of the entire resort were second to none.

Resort Experience:
Welk Resort Villas Resort is just north of Escondido and about 45 minutes from downtown San Diego. The resort is on 600 acres in a valley just east of Interstate 15.

There is room, room, and more room. The villas are located in three primary areas: Melody Hill, Harmony Hill, and Broadway Hill. Other accommodation includes Villas on The Green, which is more of a hotel/condo arrangement. There are two golf courses on the resort, an executive 18- and a nine-hole par 3. Both are well maintained. Included in the resort complex is Champagne Village, a retirement community of double wides that are very well maintained and landscaped.

We had a two-bedroom villa that was 1370 square feet! It was very well laid out, well equipped, and overlooked a water hazard (fishing lake) by the ninth green of the Fountains golf course. All villas have a name associated with them. Ours was Laura and the building next to us was Sonata (notice the Welk connection with all the names).

Best Things Nearby:
There were so many great things to do in the area. My dad and I golfed both at the resort and the courses nearby, and it was wonderful playing in such great weather! Also the resort was withing driving distance of the San Diego Zoo as well as shopping in Palm Springs. Great location!!!

Best Things About the Resort:
The timeshare was excellent, it definitely earns its gold crown rating. The golf on site was great and my little brother loved the games and the kid's pool.

Resort Experience:
Totally first class, an awesome location for plenty to do for the family or the newlyweds. It offers access to the best areas of Southern Cal. The units were like apartments, with all the trimmings, including nice washers and dryers. I recommend it to anyone looking to have a great vacation.
