Description: Best Things Nearby:
The Beach Place has a great choice of pub food and dining fare. We highly suggest LuLu's Bait Shack at the Beach Place, as the frozen drinks were great and the seafood tasty, well portioned, and priced well. The Elbow Room is the oldest pub on the Ft. Lauderdale A1A strip and was established in 1938; stop and have one. There are a number of great restaurants, with everything from Italian and Mexican fare to seafood, located between the resort and The Elbow Room.
Check out the Swap Shop, a flea market you will never forget. It carries both new products and "somebody's junk." It has to be the largest flea market I have ever seen. Take Sunrise Boulevard away from the beach to reach it--you can't miss it! Sawgrass Mills is a huge outlet store with good shopping, dining, and movie theatres. Take Sunrise Boulevard away from the beach to reach it.
Butterfly World, while a bit pricey, is a great experience. It is kinda magical to walk through gardens of live butterflies, hummingbirds, and flowers. The Ft. Lauderdale Beach is one of the prettiest beaches I have ever been on. Wait till night and see the neon lights imbedded in the beach barriers.
If gambling is your fare, the Seminole Hard Rock Cafe was recently built, but the only games offered are slots and Texas Hold 'em. I lost a buck and ate at the Hard Rock Cafe, my 13th from around the world.
The Las Olas shopping district is called the Rodeo Drive of the East Coast. I highly recommend the Le Bonne Crepe for breakfast here, which is like a little touch of Paris in a tropical setting.
Best Things About the Resort:
Location, Location. If this resort has one thing that will cause me to return, it is its location to the beach and restaurants. Most trips to the outer points of interest were no longer than a 20-minute ride.
Resort Experience:
The Merriweather Resort, once a motel, was converted into a timeshare around the mid-80s. I met one of the owners while I was there. With the huge high-rises growing around this spot, it makes me wonder when the owners are going to be offered the "right price" for their weeks.
The bathroom in our unit was a bit rundown. The kitchen utensils had turned from a matched set into a bit of a hodgepodge of replacements. There is no washing machine, but there is cable television.
The folks who worked there were very friendly, and I loved the two cats that resided around the property. It is a very friendly place and will be one of my more favorite vacations. I would highly recommend this spot.
