Description: Situated on black lava rocks overlooking Kailua-Kona Bay, the hotel is close to town and all major shops. This hotel was a "Grand old Lady from a bye gone era." Once owned by the Hilton chain, now in the hands of Hawaiian Hotels and Resorts. The structure occupies a commanding spot on the shoreline. The ocean view rooms are large with stunning views of the Pacific. Teak louvered pocket doors slide to the side revealing an entire wall of glass doors. Renovation should really be done on the entire hotel. Mostly cosmetic fixes would help. The carpeting, furniture and lightling fixtures are dated, back to the 70''s. If you want a place to relax, hang your hat so to speak and get out in that red mustang convertible you rented-then this is the place. The on site restaurant served a very elaborate buffet 3 to 4 times a week. It was well worth the price of 24.95. After staying at the Pacific Beach hotel in Waikiki,this was a bit of a letdown. But, we were on the Big Island to see the history, the people, the flora and fauna, not the bedspread in the room. We used this hotel for 10 days and did enjoy our stay. It was priced right and was at least clean and convenient. The grounds around the hotel were lovely.
