Southernmost Point Guest House

I stayed in one of the more basic rooms available - they have everything up to and including an "apartment" with separate bedrooms and a kitchen. That, obviously, costs a bit more.

Mona, who has owned the guest house for the last 15 years is a treasure. You feel like a family member rather then just a "guest". The price is very reasonable for what you receive.

The rooms are clean and neat, with just enough "frou-frou" to go with the 19th century ambiance of the place.

The location is hard to beat. It's on the corner of Duval and South, near the Southernmost Point marker, and next door to the butterfly house that is expected to be opened later this year - the entire community is anxiously awaiting that one.

They have just installed a pool/whirlpool. The water is deep enough for a nice quiet paddle/float about, but don't think about "laps". The water is VERY warm, but it's quite a relaxing place to just kick back for a while.

The main house is a renovated 19th century mansion, complete with leaded glass in the windows and two levels of wrap around porch. There is also a second house of roughly the same vintage that they use, and a couple more highly renovated rooms over a garage/storage area. Much nicer than it sounds. Some of the rooms have cooking facilities, and they just added a pool. Mona, the owner, is a wonderful lady who has lived in KW all her life.

There is a continental style breakfast that comes with your room, and it's a great way to start the day. You can sit out on the porch and watch as the resident cats, chickens and rabbits snooze in the morning sunshine. Because you are right on Duval, but at the far south-eastern end, it is the perfect location for exploring 'Old Town.' You are well within 'staggering distance' of the bars and night life, but far enough away that it won't disturb your sleep.

The rooms START in the $75ish range, but go up quite a bit. Of course, at the top of the range you are essentially getting a multi-room apartment complete with kitchen and separate bedroom and living room areas. I highly recommend this place. Would change my dates for a trip to KW if it were completely booked up.

It is next door to the brand new Key West Butterfly house.
