Galleon

  • Rated 5 of 5 by Lisa D. Farash from Spartanburg, South Carolina
Best Things Nearby:
Bars, restaurants, marina, Mallory Square, walking tours, and the beach.

Best Things About the Resort:
Location, pool, bar, and sunsets.

Resort Experience:
The Galleon has restored a lot of the rooms. Very nice, clean, and very Caribbean. We were checked in early. We were supposed to have a nice view but it wasn't cleaned yet so we took the room they had available at the time. Good thing, it was chaotic at 4pm. We would of had a great view if we had been one floor up, but there was a great big palm tree in our way. We didn't spend very much time in our room though.

From journal Fun in the Sun at Key West

The Galleon Resort

Best Things Nearby:
The Gulf of Mexico, The Atlantic Ocean, Mallory Square

Best Things About the Resort:
The Marina is outstanding - apparently the only one in Key West with floating docks. Tho' pricey it has everything a boater, fisherman and vacationer could possibly want waterwise. The young couple who owns the jet ski/boat rentals shop were extremely friendly and fun to talk with. Employees of the resort were friendly (tho' a little inefficient). Our favourite, next to the jet ski couple, was our timeshare rep. She was fun, enthusiastic, extremely good with follow through, full of tips and tricks for the resort, Key West and general timeshare enjoyment overall. The check-in was quite efficient and the welcome drinks (alcoholic or non alcoholic punch) and hors d'oerves were a very nice touch.

Resort Experience:
We had an absolutely fantastic time. Tho' our 'studio' type room was a disappointment and many little things weren't in the best of repair (lights out, lighting extremely dim, spider webs hanging from the fan, very limited as far as soap, etc) it was fine for a last minute exchange in a very requested location for two people who lived on our boat most of the time we were there.

The welcoming drink/appetizer buffet was quite wonderful and there were a couple of very nice lunches provided for those who wished to participate at extremely low prices ($5) especially considering Key West dining prices! Tho' housekeeping left a little to be desired, the resort is beautiful. The regular 1 and 2 bedroom units are wonderful and have great views, of course! Our little studio had no view (trash cans) so I wouldn't recommend one for anyone wishing to spend much time in their room.

There are conveniently located grills for those wishing to bbq their own dinner and a nice fish cleaning area with very accomodating 'munchers' to eat up the discarded portions swimming below.

From journal Birthday Celebration in New Orleans

Galleon Resort

  • December 19, 2002
  • Rated 4 of 5 by MonteC from indianapolis, Indiana
Best Things Nearby:
This property is walking distance to everything, although if the southernmost point is your destination, hire a pedicab.

Best Things About the Resort:
This resort is awesome, located right on the water and marina, surrounded by restaurants and shopping. It is only three blocks off Duval and could not have been better for what we needed.

Resort Experience:
The two bedroom at the Galleon was exceptional. We were fortunate to have a top floor with vaulted ceilings and wall to wall windows with balconies all the way around. The front balcony was about 20 feet long with a full water view and the bedroom had another balcony with a view of the marina. There was a king bed and two twins with a pull out couch in the living room. There was a huge hot tub in the master bath, enough for 6 people, although I will not say whether or not that was proven. :)

There was a side by side refrigerator and nice size kitchen, although the microwave did nothing but spark--thankfully we do not cook.

The reception from the staff was great and they would go out of their way to make sure you were having the best possible time. It could not have been more enjoyable.

The Galleon Resort

Best Things Nearby:
Fisherman's Wharf, Mallory Square -- both just a couple of blocks away.

Best Things About the Resort:
Location. The very best part of the island to be. It's even on the water and has a beach and a marina. Better yet, being a guest at the resort qualifies you for many discounts -- we got a discount on tickets to the ghost tour, even though we didn't buy the tickets at the resort.

Resort Experience:
The two-bedroom unit was small, but so cleverly designed that it did not feel cramped. Space is at a real premium on this island -- especially near Mallory Square / Fisherman's Wharf! The jacuzzi was big enough for three adults (but just barely). The balconies (off the living room and off the master bedroom) were nice but very narrow. The television in the living room was also the television in the master bedroom -- cleverly placed on a turn table to face either way. (Again, space is at a premium here.) The kitchen did not appear to be set up for major meal making. However, the unit was adequate for everything, and the location was dynamite.
