FOX RIVER RESORT

  • July 26, 2003
  • Rated 5 of 5 by vwennekamp from Germantown, Tennessee
The accommodations were fabulous -- very log cabin feel, which was entirely appropriate given that the area is very wooded with rivers and streams. The two-bedroom/two-bath could be a lock out with a studio, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom as the smaller bedroom has a small refrigerator and stove in addition to a very large bathroom. If you live in and around Chicago, this would be a fabulous resort to own as you can use the resort just on the weekends and still feel like you "got away from it all."

FANTASTIC! We had a brand-new two-bedroom unit with a large Jacuzzi tub in the master suite. The kitchen was state-of-the-art and all of the furniture was very comfortable.

Best Things Nearby:
There is nothing nearby--this is the kind of resort where you enjoy the amenities on hand. Chicago is 70 miles away.

Best Things About the Resort:
They accept pets--our son was excited we could bring our dog. The units were ample. The master bedroom had a large whirlpool tub. There was a large indoor pool with a separate children's pool. The Fox River resort had an activities center with many planned activities each day geared towards kids--my 2-year-old loved the finger painting. The game room had Ping-Pong, air hockey, and arcade games.

Resort Experience:
This is a self-contained resort. As you enter the grounds, you go left for the resort and right for the RV park. There is a small par-3 golf course, miniature golf, and an outdoor pool. The indoor swimming pool, while large, is a drive away, as it is in the RV park--same with the activities center.

We stayed in February 2003 and had a problem getting the heat in the unit to adequately warm up the master bedroom--we had some very chilly nights! Maintenance could not fix the problem. Thus, this is more of a place to stay in the summer.

The surrounding area is economically depressed. One is greeted to the town by signs pleading to re-open the jail. Ottawa is 12 miles away for groceries and a few good restaurants.

If you live in the area and can get this resort as a bargain vacation for a long weekend or week, it is fine for a change of scenery. We experienced it, but I doubt we would go back.

Best Things Nearby:
Chicago is only an hour away. There is also a casino within 45 minutes of the resort.

Best Things About the Resort:
We loved the peace and back to nature feel of the resort and nice decor of the units. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Resort Experience:
A rural part of Illinois away from everything and everybody, yet close enough to go have some fun at the casino or in the busy metropolis of Chicago.

Best Things About the Resort:
It was very relaxing. It turned out to be a great stayover on our way home. We used a vacation escape.....what a great deal.

Resort Experience:
This is a very comfortable place to stay. It is your average timeshare accomodation.

We had a living room, dining room, full kitchen, one master bedroom.

The resort was kinda out in the middle of nowhere. That's what I like about it. It was a peaceful getaway from the hussel and bussel of the city.
