Fairfield Sedona [RCI#5797]

Best Things Nearby:
The Red Rocks are so close that you can almost touch them. Depending on your unit, you may even have a beautiful of them. There is also a shopping center with a supermarket within walking distance where you can purchase groceries, etc. Also close by are restaurants where you can call ahead and order take-out. The town of Sedona is a mere few-minute drive away. The airport, located high on a hill, is even closer, and from there you get a really remarkable view of Sedona and the beautiful Red Rocks. There's also a Vortex up there too where you can "feel" the energy, that magnetic surge of positivity.

Best Things About the Resort:
The Fairfield has a very pleasant, relaxed atmosphere. Maintenance is very good. There was a problem with the cistern and the maintenance man came over in less than five minutes to repair it. The one-bedroom units with full-size kitchens are really very spacious, and most comfortable.

Resort Experience:
We spent a total of 12 nights at the Fairfield. The first 7 nights, we were in a one bedroom, full-size kitchen unit that overlooked the stunning Red Rocks. The balcony was large and accommodating. The living room was large, well- appointed. The bedroom was most comfortable, having a large king size bed which afforded a really good night's sleep. There was also a jacuzzi, which I used every day. Now, the remaining five nights we were in a one-bedroom unit with a mini-kitchen. I'm afraid that was a bit of a disappointment due to the small size. It wasn't just that the kitchen was mini, but that the whole unit itself was much smaller. In addition, we could hear everything that was going on in the unit adjacent. There were only two adjoining doors separating the two units, therefore, we could hear the neighbors conversations and television.

The staff at the Front Desk were very professional and quite helpful. Check-in was quick. We had to go to another desk in order to get the parking identification, and the man there tried to talk us into taking trips and buying a timeshare. However, he was by no means pushy, and in actual fact, was quite pleasant when I told him we weren't interested.

There were organized activities which we didn't participate in, for we were out and about most of the time. The pool is large and looked welcoming, even in the month of January. I did use the gym quite often, and I also used the computer room to check my email. There are three computers there, and at times, there was a line. However, everyone was really friendly and would start chatting, so it wasn't really a problem.

The people staying at the Fairfield were mostly couples over the age of 50. I did see one family with two little girls, but in general, I surmise that the resort caters mainly to adults. It could be, though, that there were not more families with small children since school was in still session.

I'd definitely return to the Fairfield. I would, however, request an upstairs unit with a view and a full-size kitchen.

Best Things Nearby:
This resort is close to many historic, educational, and interesting places! Right downtown is an artist and crafters mecca. You can wander the streets finding all kind of "must have" items. You can drive 60 min. north and west to Williams AZ and board a train that will take you to the Grand Canyon! (www.thetrain.com). The Verde Valley is about 10 miles south on I-17 where you will find the Verde Valley Wilderness Train Ride (www.verdecanyonrr.com), The old mining city Jerome which is a Ghost Town; and the Tuzigoot Ruins (www.nps.gov/tuzi). Montezuma’s Castle, an amazing cliff dwelling is also south I-17 about 8 miles. Red Rock State Park is out your back door! If you head north and east, Walnut Canyon Cliff Dwellings is about 40 minutes from Sedona. Meteor Crater is also east about 70 minutes. The Petrified Forest and Painted Desert are closer to 2 hours but still a day trip away. In Flagstaff, about 20 miles north is the Lowell Observatory, where Pluto was first discovered. I’ll try and give you more detailed information in this journal as well as the journal on the Grand Canyon and in "There’s a lot to do in Flagstaff" about each one of these sites.

Best Things About the Resort:
While we were in Flagstaff, we came down to Sedona specifically to check out the Fairfield Sedona Gold Crown Resort! Whenever we get close to a Fairfield Resort, we go and take pictures for our own member directory we're putting together (we're not too wild about the directory Fairfield is producing -- not enough information!), as well as check out the amenities, kitchens, and the like. It gives us a leg up when we're trying to decide where to go next. Right off we were impressed with the view. You look out your windows at Red Rock State Park. (See picture below). Sedona is also a fairly new development. Everything looked fresh and appealing. All the units, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom, have a well-equipped kitchen with microwave and garbage disposer, washer/dryer hidden in a closet, iron and ironing board, a full bathrooms (two in the two- and three-bedroom units), a breakfast bar, stereo, three TVs (two in the one bedroom), private hot tub in deluxe models only (and that can be a one-bedroom!) The interiors were decorated in bold natural tones and mostly light colored woods that blended well with the bold colors of the surrounding countryside. The landscaping was rock gardens and desert vegetation. Most appropriate and made for a lovely timeshare. We noticed that a grocery store, a drug store, and a shopping area were close by.

Resort Experience:
Sedona is at an elevation about 3500 feet. That means it’s hotter than Flagstaff by 10 degrees, but probably 10 cooler than Phoenix. Phoenix looks to be roughly 100 miles south while Flagstaff is maybe 20 miles north. The resort amenities include an outdoor swimming pool, which was open and ready for sun bathers. (We were there in the first part of February when the temperature was is the mid ‘70s,) a well equipped and modern exercise room, an outdoor hot tub, a game room and picnic BBQ area. They also have a children activities program called "Get Out and Play." The unit was spectacular. (See pictures.) The beds are reasonably new and firm to sit on (no sagging!). It looked like everyone was on the ball. The only downside is the ongoing construction. We saw quite a few workers and they made a bit of noise. This might be something to ask about if you make a reservation at this resort. Other than that, we recommend this place highly for your consideration . . . and even though our experience was in the winter, the units look well equipped, (all air-conditioned), to handle any season of the year. (By the way, Sedona hit close to 100 this year, one of the hottest temperatures on record for the area . . .)

Best Things Nearby:
It seems everything is close to Sedona. You are never more than a fifteen minute ride to some of the best hiking trails and scenic beauty this country has to offer, and it starts right outside your door.

Best Things About the Resort:
Easy access to highways to all the places you want to go. Roomy, high quality units. Extremely comfortable. Two blocks from drug store and supermarket. Quiet location and excellent staff.

Resort Experience:
Rooms are large and well-appointed in a southwestern motif. It's an easy commute to any of the sights you want to see, including the Grand Canyon (two hours away). Sedona is rich in art galleries, jewelry shops, and restaurants. Shops pretty much close down by 6 or 7pm, making it a great place to relax and unwind. No street lights so the night sky is magnificent.

The resort is smallish so they don't have a lot of extra amenities, but the staff offers a lot of informative classes onsite. Quiet and relaxing, and if you're going on vacation what more do you want than a beautiful, comfortable place to stay with everything you want or need only moments away?

Red Rock.

Best Things About the Resort:
Beautiful view.

Resort Experience:
This is a fairly new resort and I was very pleased with the accommodations. Be advised this resort has no elevators. If on the second floor you have three small flights of stairs (14 steps total) to climb. Units 1100 and 1200 have a lumberyard in front, which you see and hear each morning starting at 6am. We got used to it as the view from our balcony more than compensated for that. What a way to enjoy your morning coffee!

I think this is one of the nicest hotels in San Francisco - it''s in a good location (although it''s an exhausting walk up the hill to get there from China town!)& the building is architecturally very nice. The rooms are opulently furnished with nice big beds & lots of room to move. The lobby bar is a great place to meet friends for pre-dinner drinks & nibbles - they have an amazing range of sushi rolls. The fitness centre is also very good - the pool is a good size & the massage I had was probably one of the best massages I''ve ever had.
