Best Things Nearby:
Nothing but the beautiful plants and waterfalls.

Best Things About the Resort:
The view from the balcony was the shiz.Full kitchen with vaulted ceilings and a loft, 2 bedrooms, master bed/bath. Mad space yo!!!

Resort Experience:
No flippin air-conditioning... that bites with humidity. There are no locals anywhere, no younger crowd, no clubs or even bars in Princeville. Had to drive 30 miles for fun, day and night entertainment with locals.

The Cliffs at Princeville

Although not within walking distance of the beach (you COULD just dive off the cliffs!--NOT), it is a GORGEOUS view, and I can't complain. The Cliffs offers quiet privacy and comforts of spacious condominium suites. We found it to be very quiet (mostly retired couples visiting), and everything inside and out was meticulous. The Cliffs Resort has four great tennis courts, a ho-hum swimming pool, private spa for adults (you might not notice it at first), and a putting green with sand trap (never saw it). Ideal for couples and families, accommodations include one-bedroom suites and one bedroom with loft. Each suite features a fully equipped kitchen, two full baths, two private lanais, separate living room, and private master bedroom. There is no A/C, which was sort of okay in May since there are ceiling fans, but we had to move the bed, so that it was directly underneath the fan...not a problem. If you've never been to Kauai, go listen to the Activity presentation on select mornings.

Best Things Nearby:
Other than Kauai? Hanelei - I really liked that village.

Best Things About the Resort:
It's mine! Well, that and the view of the ocean from your room on top of the cliffs.

Resort Experience:
Back in '98 when we purchased, the units were undergoing renovations and we saw the original state. It was nice, but we were more motivated by the location fo the timeshare, rather than by the accommodations. Well, the renovations have long since been completed and I have to say they did an amazing job. The unit was so luxurious and comfortable. Add to that the view and I have to say I wish I could live there. We availed ourselves of the hot tub one evening - mmmmm. So nice. Obviously, since we own there, I'm somewhat biased, but I have stayed at enough Gold Crown units at this point to be able to confidently say that the Cliffs ranks right up there at the top.

Best Things Nearby:
The Princeville area is one of the most prestigious resort areas in Kaui. There is a shopping mall nearby with a grocery, restaurants, bars, and shops around a mile away. There are popular beaches nearby, namely the Haena Beach and Lumahai Beach, and between these two beaches is the Waikamaloa Wet Cave. Near the shopping center, there is the beautiful scenery of the Hanalei Lookout. Around 5 miles to the east is the Kilauea Lighthouse, which area is a wildlife park with hundreds of birds nesting on the surrounding cliffs.

Best Things About the Resort:
Personally, I think The Cliffs Resort is one of the best timeshares to stay in Kauai. It's far from traffic. The area is good for jogging.

Resort Experience:

This unit has two bedrooms, dishwasher, and a microwave oven. It also includes washer/dryer, television with VCR, and a telephone. Onsite you find an outdoor pool and four tennis courts. You also have access to all the facilities in the Princeville complex. The 45-hole Robert Trent Jones Jr. golf course is one of the major attractions in this complex.

Best Things Nearby:
Hanalei Bay, Na Pali coast, Lighthouse and wildlife refuge, golf courses, walking trails, restaurants.

Best Things About the Resort:
There is a closet in the living room, as well as end tables with drawers, which make the living room sofa bed very usable as an extra bed/bedroom. The balcony is screened in and lovely, and there is a constant pleasant breeze. We had a view of the ocean, and it was awesome.

Resort Experience:
RCI rates this unit as a "one bedroom with a loft." This is technically true, as the upstairs loft overlooks the downstairs, but it does not do the space justice. There are two queen-size beds upstairs, as well as a closet, desk, and dresser, and you wouldn't want to put a wall up there, even to give you greater privacy, because there are windows on the roof line which can be opened for a breeze, which makes you wonder why anyone would opt for air conditioning.

I thought the furnishings were very well planned, and liked the fact that the massive coffee table was on casters, which made it very easy to move. I also liked the fact that the living room television could be hidden by closing the mirrored doors to the closet, yet was very conveniently available if you chose to watch (I'm not a big television fan).

We would have liked to have taken advantage of the barbecue grills and covered sitting areas to have a cookout, but we never managed to find the time. We did manage to get to the adirondack chairs, which are chained in place by twos near the edges of the cliffs, just to have a drink and marvel at the incredible expanse of ocean. It was a wonderful place to sit and relax. I was told that during the whale migrating season (January to April), you can often see whales right from the cliffs. Sure beats getting seasick!

Everyone was very friendly, and I would choose to spend more time at the resort itself next time. We thought the pot luck supper on Thursday evening was (or would have been) a wonderful way to get to meet other people and get rid of the food we didn't have time to use. We kicked ourselves for forgetting about it, especially as we had four steaks we never got around to cooking!
