Pahio at Bali Hai Villas

Best Things Nearby:

The Bali Hai Villas are smack dab in the middle of Princeville, a very lovely, but also very ritzy part of the island. It is about a mile from the Princeville Hotel, whose grandeur and sheer beauty when combined with its location on the cliffs of Kauai cannot be overstated. Just to put it into perspective, this is where Oprah Winfrey stays when she comes to Kauai. It's definitely worth walking through! Other than that, there isn't much going on in Princeville if you didn't bring your golf clubs.

The mall that is located at the entrance of Princeville is very pricey -- there is a grocery store, but we were warned in the Ultimate Guide to Kauai that it was overpriced and that better prices could be found at the Safeway in Kapa'a. I did like the seclusion of Princeville, however. After all of the stress of planning a wedding, I really felt like I "got away from it all" there!

I loved that Hanalei was close, however. Hanalei is a charming little bohemian town -- but there are very nice shops and restaurants there as well.

Best Things About the Resort:

The actual unit was all that we could have hoped for and more. It was big for the two of us, would have been perfect had we had kids or had another couple with us.

The pool area is beautiful, but very cold! It is not hot in February, just warm, which was not enough to heat the pool! However, one evening we did go for a dip in the whirlpool, which was more than roomy enough for four people, which was good because when we got there, there was another couple in there. We relaxed in there, stargazed and chatted. A wonderful ending to the day.

We also loved the free POG (pineapple, orange, guava juice) and continental breakfast that was offered at the clubhouse of the timeshare! We felt very attended to while we were there.

Resort Experience:

After we got our luggage from the baggage carousel, we were directed to the Pahio at Bali Hai greeters who gave me a lei, we filled out some paperwork, they gave us our key and we were on our way! This was wonderful as we didn't get in until about 9 pm and we were exhausted from travelling.

We loved our timeshare. It was huge! 2 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms for just the two of us. We really enjoyed having the full kitchen, it allowed us to make breakfasts and pack lunches for our daily excursions. It also had a washer and dryer (and laundry detergent and fabric softener were provided for us), which we also used.

We had a stunning view outside of our bedroom -- it reminded us each morning that we were in a garden paradise. A short walk out of the timeshare and you were able to see much of what Kauai had to offer.

The resort itself was clean, the service was efficient and friendly. I had absolutely no complaints whatsoever about any of it. We did not partake in most of the activities that the resort offered -- we were busy doing our own exploring of the island. Our unit was so big though, that I almost wish that there would have been some friends there to share it with us! Note that I said almost. :)

Again, I'm not sure what the cost is per night as this was part of our "bonus week" with Pahio Resorts.

Our condo was one of the newest created at this resort, so it was pretty nice. Even the ones we peeked in that were some of the older ones looked nice too, though.

The pool at this Pahio Resort is the best one out of all of them (if you're not counting the one at the Radison Hotel if you're staying at the Kauai Beach Villas). We checked the Shearwater and the main office pools and neither had a waterfall (ours had two) coming into the pool, nor the one coming into the spa. The spa had sand on the bottom of it, which was a fun surprise.

This resort is set in Princeville which is located on the north side of the island. Princeville is the resort area so it's lush and groomed, however, not very realistic as to what the rest of the island looks like. It depends on what you're looking for whether you go for the north or the south part of the island.

The only unfortunate part of our stay here was that the beach was not accessable (or even viewable) from this resort/condo. You have to drive to get to one, but we didn't mind so much after we got used to the condo.

Overall, the best Pahio Resort condo to stay at hands down.

Pahio At Bali Hai Villas

The Pahio at Bali Hai Villas is a Gold Crown resort, a recognition well deserved in my opinion. It's very clean, well maintained, and very relaxing, a pleasant staff that goes out of their way to serve your every need and make your visit and stay a memorable one, you won’t want to leave.

While the rooms do not include air-conditioning at this resort (and most others, I have been told) we did not find that the least bit distracting because the trade winds blow across the island and keep you cool. We even found that at night we needed a blanket.

This resort is located on the north side of the island in Princeville, and Kaui being one of the wettest islands, expect some humidity but don’t let that stop you.

From the moment you set foot on to this resort, you begin to feel the tensions dissipate. Their grounds are well maintained and picturesque, and the waterfalls and gardens enhance your experience and make you relax even more. There are activities for children, adults, and family. The beautiful pool with its gorgeous waterfalls and tropical gardens makes you lose track of time. The pool also features a sand bottom area and beach for the children. For a relaxing treat, the spa has a sand bottom that is fantastic!

Don't let the price scare and keep you from enjoying one of the best times of your life because as an RCI points member it is only $79 for the entire week (the value of RCI points, membership, and vacation ownership). Need I say more?

Best Things About the Resort:
The units and grounds are very well maintained, clean, and (mostly) quiet.

Resort Experience:
These units were very nice. We got the one bedroom downstairs unit on our exchange.

It had two full bathrooms, one with a jetted tub and one with shower. There was a fully equipped kitchen with refrigerator, microwave, oven, electric range, coffee grinder, and dishwasher. Also available were a rice cooker, toaster, and coffeemaker. There was a compact clothes washer and dryer (one of those up/down models), which actually did fairly large loads. The units do not have air conditioning, but it was only a bit warm in the late afternoon before the trade winds, otherwise the three ceiling fans did a great job keeping us comfortable.

We attended an "orientation" session the first morning after arrival, and despite our misgivings that we would be hearing either a timeshare presentation or hard sell for the resort’s concierge services (i.e. shill for local tour operators) the approximately 45 minutes were spent giving a pretty good overview of the major things to do in Kauai. From our perspective, these are great for first timers, some of which we had done our first trip in 1999. These include the Jetcopter rides, Snorkel and Kayak trips to Napali coast; various bus tours (like the one that stops at all the movie set locations), dive trips, fishing, golf, horseback riding, dinner cruises, and the ubiquitous Luau dinners.

Princiville Hotel BEACH! (Long walk down stairs behind the resort, but WORTH IT! Our 5 and 7 year old managed the climb down and up just fine. Limited public parking, but you can even rent kayaks right on the beach!

Best Things About the Resort:
Bali Hai Villas sand and tiled bottom pool (with mermaid and other inlays)with waterfalls! Adjoining volleyball court and lanai overlooking pool with grills!

Resort Experience:
Once you arrive in Lihue and drive north, you with be awakened and rejuvenated as the sun filled warm breezes send calming messages to your soul. Relax and enjoy the golf, beaches, and resort...or drive around and explore the caves, waterfalls, and canyon.
