Description: This was a delightful site on which we were often the only British alongside French and Dutch campers and a very few Germans. It is right alongside the Loue and my daughter and I enjoyed some brief swims in the river [Pam, my wife, is not fond of swimming].
There was plenty of room in each emplacement when the very friendly owner took us round. The toilet blocks with their hot showers were more than adequate and there were washing and drying facilities for clothes.
If you prefer the idea, there was a possibility of b and b in the house. I forget the price but I know it was very reasonable. The owners also serve meals but it is a small dining room and you have to book in the morning and choose your food to eat the same evening. Vegetables, whether cooked or in salads are mostly home grown. It was the first time we had tried fondue and it was delicious.
This is not the main tourist part of the Loue and not many, even of the campers, seem to look around the village. I have been most disappointed to find virtually nothing on the history of the village in a Google search. There is a private chateau from the 18th and 19th century and remains of an older fortified building. The chateau appears to have been built for a major state figure with some supervisory role over the salt production at Salins nearby. I can find nothing on the village as such. [Only that we can enjoy the bridges, old buildings, river fields and the woods which cover much of the area. Apart from finding the last a bit exaggerated, that is precisely what we did.] However, it shouts of having a history. There are old buildings which may well have been domestic/industrial and one has what is apparently an old winch outside.
It is funny what memory does. I had forgotten the name of the place where the campsite was [what a boon maporama is!] but I remember perfectly the layout of the site, the ice-cold water from the fridge which we were given on arrival and the hordes of midges around the site lights in the late evenings – and I can taste those fondues!
