The family we lived with were chosen through the school we were attending. There are ups and downs of staying with a family, and it is down to luck whether it works out or not. The house was in a nice area and near to a bus route, which was handy. The rooms we had were basic; however, the family did have a pool and we were welcome to be around at any time. Meals were included in the price of the rooms; however, lunch, the main meal, is normally served around 2pm, which is awkward if you are out for the day. The evening meal is smaller and generally not enough, so we had to eat out most of the time. However, six other students staying there made it fun and it gives you more of an idea of the Mexican way of life. Our rooms weren't cleaned for the first 2 weeks and we had to ask for amenities like toilet paper. Nevertheless, it was enjoyable, and different to staying in a hotel.
