Embassy Vacation Resort Poipu Point, Kauai

  • October 11, 2006
  • Rated 4 of 5 by Koinonia1 from San Diego, California
The 2-bedroom unit was spacious, clean, and modern. Every unit from the 2nd floor up had some good to excellent view of the ocean. The pool had one side like a beach with a kiddie pool, volleyball net, and large secluded hot tub. The surroundings were tropical themed, of course. A walking path meandered along the ocean cliffs and along a secluded beach. The pool bar and grill was the only restaurant at this timeshare; but the Hyatt next door offered the usual high end restaurants and shops. Hotels and Timeshares located here are away from tourist crowds, yet very close to the activities Kauai offers.

Best Things Nearby:
The Hyatt Regency

Best Things About the Resort:
The property landscaping and the views of the ocean.

Resort Experience:
The Embassy at Poipu Point is a beautiful resort with nice pools and beautifully landscaped grounds with waterfalls and ponds. The room that we had was a two-bedroom with a foldout couch. The room had two bathrooms and a laundry room because they provided no maid service while you stayed. The rooms were cleaned before and after your trip and you only had they towels that they originally left you with. The master bedroom was huge and it had a gorgeous tile bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub and an open shower, with tile surrounding it. The resort served a continental breakfast every morning, which wasn't very exciting. The breakfast consisted mainly of different cereals. There wasn't much to walk to from this resort besides walking along the beach path or to the Hyatt Regency Resort next door. The beach down below was rocky so there wasn't good access to it from the resort. The grounds at the Embassy were very lovely; there were tropical plants all around the property and nice pathways. There was a hot tub in another area of the resort that was somewhat secluded from the other pools and gathering areas that made it a nice area to relax at. The main pool had a hammock for anyone to use and the pool had a sandy bottom. The eating areas at this resort were very sparse, there weren't any nice restaurants to eat at but they had a poolside grill. That made meals kind of tricky not having anything on the property to eat at. The nightlife was pretty boring unless you went next door to the Hyatt Regency or went down to the pool area.

In order to go shopping, snorkeling or to dine out we had to leave the resort, which some days was tiresome and tedious. We had six people in our group and not everyone wanted to do the same things or go to the same places, so we all had to compromise to go anywhere. The other annoyance on the trip was that we spent our time washing and folding towels for our showers for the next day. This kind of made it hard to relax and call this a vacation. We did end up having a nice time but I was expecting more from this resort. The Embassy is awfully proud of their Kauai location, and yes it is nice, but there weren't very many amenities or services available. If I go back to Kauai I would probably stay somewhere different just so I could eat out whenever I wanted, and I would also want to stay somewhere with beach access.

Best Things Nearby:
Southern coast of Kauai, beside the ocean with lava rocks; Shipwreak Beach; Spouting Horn; and activities within a half-hour's drive around the coast

Best Things About the Resort:
The RCI timeshare rooms are perfect for a week's stay. I liked the first floor with patio doors to the outside garden. The morning beakfast for $7 was a  good start. The resort list of activities was our favorite, and there was the Jacuzzi.

Resort Experience:
It's a 22-acre garden setting with a lagoon-style pool right on the southern coast of Kauai. I liked everything except the pressure to get a $100 gift certificate for a luau. When I went to the 90-minute talk, they said I didn't meet the $85K or a home-owner qualification! Other timeshares in the area have $55K salary requirements. Each room needs an all-purpose fire extinguisher. It should not be down the hall somewhere you can't find.

Best Things Nearby:
Poipu beach, Keioki's Fish House, great central location on island

Best Things About the Resort:
Overlooks ocean, awesome pool, spacious units, free parking (anything free is a luxury in Hawaii!) The poolside grill on-site is tasty.

Resort Experience:
A beautiful resort! The property is lovely, the pool is terrific, and the beach is so neat! The condo is really nice, with plenty of space for four (even six) adults. Two bedrooms, two baths, nice kitchen, lanais - really nice. Friendly staff, tasty poolside grill. We loved it here!

The staff can help plan activities, such as helicopter sightseeing trips, snorkel/catamaran trips, and whale-watching cruises (Jan-March). Poipu Beach is so beautiful, one could spend a whole week there and have a perfectly wonderful vacation! The north shore has an awesome hiking trail overlooking the ocean. To the west of the island is Waimea Canyon (Grand Canyon of the Pacific), which is another must-see.

Embassy Poipu Point

Best Things Nearby:
There are several nice restaurants, and the grocery store in Kaloa (sp?) is sufficient for most needs.

Best Things About the Resort:
It is beautiful and well maintained. While large enough to provide interesting walks, it isn't so large as some places, where you have to use a car to get to the pool, front desk, etc.

Resort Experience:
Most, if not all, units have pretty views. True, you may not be able to trade into those that face the ocean, but you will at least get a nice garden to look at through your patio/deck. The grounds will provide lots of photo opps, and then, when you walk to the Hyatt next door, there will be even better ones.

The resort itself does not have a beach. You can walk a little ways to find one, but you can also drive a few miles either way to well-known public ones or those secluded ones that few know about.
