The staff is friendly and responsive. Everything is well maintained and clean. The on-site restaurants are good (the palapa at the Mayan is the most casual and least expensive). You can order anything to go and also get good ribs, roast chicken, salads, etc., at the Tradewinds Express in the Royal Caribbean.
There are lots of low-key activities, like lotteria (Mexican bingo), blackjack, painting, crafts, and dance lessons, or you can tour ruins, snorkel, or just relax and hang out. It is great for families, couples, groups… anyone. All of my ratings are excellent.

Royal Mayan rooms are spacious, lovely, and always clean.
The service is incredible, as they are always helpful and trying to please the guests, even the children. The staff members have been there sometimes for many years. The company treats their workers well, it appears.

We had a two-bedroom unit with a full kitchen right on the beach. We ate breakfast every morning on the patio. It was a dream come true!! A few steps and there was the water.
We had plenty of fun-filled days complete with snorkeling lessons, tanning on the beach, beach volleyball, the limbo, a Mexican party. . . We also rented a Jeep for the day and drove down (or up?) to Playa del Carmen. I would not hesitate to stay here again or at any of the Royal resorts. Definitely five-star!!

The best thing is the free safe and daily maid service. The worst thing is the concierge, who's only interested in selling you things.
We loved our stay and with our rental car we went to Costco and Walmart and bought groceries and we only spent $30 at the resort.
The beach is nice as well. What a stay--I have stayed at many resorts but this is the best--I must admit that checking in took longer than anywhere else but it was worth the wait. If you don't believe me email a www.TUG2.net member and they will tell you the Royal Mayan is regularly ranked in the Top 10--the nicest thing is that it does not have to be expensive. They tried to sell us a timeshare but it was overpriced. We used a white week for this trade--we were told we would not get into the Royal Mayan but we did. Don't go to places on the Mayan Riviera--be patient because the Mayan Riviera is about 30 miles south of the Seven and you have to commute to any of the activities or restaurants outside of your resort.

FYI, dress attire on special evenings is as much white as possible, but this can be pareo and pearls!
Nude beaches yes, but it's no big deal. Although there are personal safes, leave your valuables at home. You don't need much of anything other than finances for this trip. You can tell the folks who 'do' Club Meds alot. They bring one tiny carry on bag ONLY! Pet peeve--our departure for our return flight left the Club at 5 am! Pardon! The local currency is now Euros, but VISA, Master Card and American Express are accepted at this Club Med. If you've been to a TRUE 'all inclusive' resort, this style of resort will disappoint you. There can be alot of extra charges.
Some rooms are vastly better than others. Some are in areas suited to singles and party people. My first exposure to seeing people have sex in public was at this Club Med! Another pun! If someone tells you they are going on a picnic, it's more than lunch. Although not the public sex fests of the '70's, things can get pretty drunk and sexy. Also there is always too much sun!
Club Med changes their marketing approach from time to time. Now that this Club is in the expensive catagory, it is hoped that more luxuty items are being installed. My room was so spartan it could have been cleaned with a garden hose. Verify all details before you book. This Club is a long way from town if you suddenly realize that you can't bare the local traditions. The nude beach is actually on a less desirable part of the beach.
