Great Vacation

I'm not sure where all the negative reviews are coming from but, after reading the ones on Travel Advisor, I wanted to cancel. I'm glad we didn't because my family had a great time. We stayed at Woodstone Meadows. The units we clean and spacious. We used the pool and my sons used the golf course. We were all pleased with the activities offered. The Water Park was the favorite activity. Yes, it costs money, but what doesnt't anymore. Did these people really expect to go on vacation and not spend any money. Duh!! Some people are not satisfied no matter what. I would definately recommend this resort to families of all ages.

Best Things Nearby:
Dayton Farmer's Market; Ever's Buffet; Thunderbird Diner

Best Things About the Resort:
Well equipped health club, with elliptical machines, spa, pool, steam room and sauna.

Resort Experience:
Arrived around 8:30pm on Sunday...I was the only one in line and check-in took about 5 minutes. Very efficient and helpful staff. Wonderful accommodations. Like new. Large king bed in master bedroom and Jacuzzi in bathroom supporting the other bedroom. Full Kitchen. Nice deck. Very good health club--I used the elliptical machine, weights, spa, steam room, and sauna. Only complaint is that I could clearly hear people walking around upstairs. Suggest DVD players be installed in the future as most rental stores are migrating that way. A good vacation spot in the fall...uncrowded, clear and crisp. I wish the new indoor water park had been completed as was advertised in last month's RCI magazine.

Best Things Nearby:
Thomas Jeferson's home, Monticello; many excellent local wineries for tours and tastings; several great golf courses; and Charlottesville, VA, for interesting little shops and restaurants and a day in the "city"

Best Things About the Resort:
The resort is beautiful and well-maintained, and the staff is helpful and prompt to resolve problems. The exercise facilities are excellent.

Resort Experience:
The resort is large, with several options and types of timeshare accommodations. We stayed in the one closest to the registration center (Woodstone Meadows), which is very close to one of the resort’s golf courses and walking distance to one of the large exercise facilities with an indoor pool. This time of the year, the ski area was not operating (too early), but it looked impressive.

Things we did on-site: We went to a crafts fair at the Conference Center and really enjoyed it. We signed up for a special winemaker’s dinner at the Conference Center. The food was very good and we learned a lot about the winery's different products as well as why this region is so good for growing wine grapes. We took a class in couples' massage from one of the massage therapists at the spa and learned how to help each other get the kinks out of our necks and shoulders. There is a calendar printed weekly showing all the things you can do and classes you can take.

The unit we had was upstairs and was very nice. The kitchen was quite complete, which was important to us, as we like to cook in rather than eat out every night. There was a very nice balcony with a gas grill and a gas fireplace in the unit, which we used a couple of evenings. The master bedroom was very comfortable, and the master bath had a good-sized Jacuzzi tub as well as separate shower. We did not use the second bedroom. The living area furniture was very comfortable and not at all worn. There was a TV in the living-room area and both bedrooms. It is definitely a Gold Crown resort.

Luray Caverns, Shenandoah Mountains, Sky Line Drive, malls for indoor shopping, and movie theaters

Best Things About the Resort:
The scenery is very beautiful. I also enjoyed the many activities they offer. They have activities for all ages. The location was also a plus. Total driving time was approximately 2 hours. I love the fact that I can jump in my car and not have to drive hours and hours for a four-season resort.

Resort Experience:
This was supposed to be a week-long family vacation, but my beau had to work last minute. I ended up going by myself and had a very relaxing time. I received my very first massage, toured the entire resort, and took lots of beautiful pictures. There were even little shops to buy groceries or souvenirs. I look forward to going back next year.

Staunton VA - Shenendoah Shakespeare at Blackfriars Playhouse, Frontier Culture Museum (mmm fudge!), Skyline Drive.

Best Things About the Resort:
Space, location, scenery, atmosphere, facilities . . . but then I own here so I would say that wouldn't I?

Resort Experience:
As most people comment: Massanutten is a vast resort. You need a car. Once the water park opens in the summer (2005), it really will have something for everyone. From snow sports, golf, riding, hiking, and swimming to numerous resort-led activities, there's really no reason to leave the immediate area.

Farther afield, though, there are wineries, historic farmers markets and towns, Civil War trails, presidential homes, and of course, Washington DC. I love this place--there's so much to do if you want to and wonderful, relaxing mountain air if you don't.
