Cliffside Park, New Jersey
April 2, 2004
The pool, while pretty, is crowded and noisy. Ditto for the beach. Locals use the property of Gran Porto Real as well as the beach. This is contrary to Real's advertising claims. We witnessed a local child of about seven pull down his shorts and urinate in the pool in full view of the staff. That was on our first day there! We complained and the staff ignored us. The supposedly included water sports equipment is mostly broken. I was out on a provided (plastic) sea kayak that actually SUNK!!! I had to drag its remains back to the shore myself with no help whatsoever from the disaffected staff. The only portion of our vacation that was enjoyable was the time we spent away from this abomination of a hotel.
Written complaints to the travel agent, hotel, and Real Management offices remain unanswered. There are many other fine accommodations in the area. I suggest that travelers research properties in nearby Playacar. This is a gated resort community and the resorts are much better taken care of and respectful of their guests.
