The second time I was in Cancun was in fall of 1999, and we stayed in this resort. It is a nice resort with pretty large rooms and kitchens, and it is has more of a condominium look than a hotel. Its major drawback is that it is located on the Nichupte Lagoon instead of the sea. What that really means is that there is no beach and no water to swim in other than a swimming pool. So if you want to go to the beach, you have to rent a car and drive to the other side of Kukulkan Blvd and maybe squeeze through the guards and get on the beach at one of the hotels. If not, you can go to the beach that is public, but it doesn''t have chais lounges or umbrellas, and it is quite dirty. Not to diminish the amenities of Coral Mar though, it has a tennis court, golf course, grocery store literally in the next building. But the store is small and expensive, so if you really want to go shopping and you already rented a car, drive to Walmart (just ask locals for directions). The resort also offers tours and you can go to see Mayan ruins, or go snorkeling, scuba-diving, etc. There is a restaurant and parking. They also have lots of paperback bestsellers in the lobby, so you can borrow something to read. All rooms are air-conditioned. The staff is very friendly and if you need something, just call, and you will be served. Unfortunately, we had some ants in our room (it was on the first floor), so they brought some sprays, and in a day ants were gone.
