Description: POLO TOWERS
3745 Las Vegas Boulevard South
Las Vegas
Nevada 89109
We spent five days in Las Vegas at this resort right on the ‘Strip’ next door to Planet Hollywood so it couldn’t have been more central. We booked this through our Diamond resorts point system but it can be booked without being a member. This is a pretty large complex and has self catering suites and also normal hotel rooms.
CHECKING IN:
The reception area is beautiful, huge with high ceilings and an enormous statue of three rearing horse in the centre. It is marble, gold and glass and very sumptuous looking. The reception desk was all along one side and there were always about a dozen members of staff on duty whenever we passed by.
We booked months before and once we arrived everyone else waited in the car outside while I went to investigate where we could park the cars and check in. It took about ten minutes all together and the man wanted to explain all about the resort but I asked if we could come back after parking the cars and getting our stuff up to the rooms. This was not a problem.
It turned out that they wanted to offer us free tickets for a show for four of us which was very nice of them or we could have had a discount for a meal. We chose the show and paid the extra for two others to join us.
We had a two bedroom suit which actually turned out to be a one bedroom suite adjoined to an ‘efficiency studio’.
The one bedroom suite:
This had a huge main bedroom with wonderful kind sized bed with two doors – one led to the bathroom and the other to the main room near the kitchen.
The main room was a sitting /dining room with a large sofa and chair. It also had a Queen sized ‘Murphy bed’ which came out of the wall and formed a very comfortable double bed. At the dining room end there was a full sized table and a large sliding door out on to a small balcony.
The kitchen had everything you would need for a self catering holiday including a dish washer, blender, coffee machine, microwave and full cooker. Interestingly there was no washing machine, if you wanted to wash clothes there were a laundry facilities on every other floor with washers, dryers and ironing boards. There was also an ironing board, broom and vacuum cleaner in each room. There was room cleaning service every day so we didn’t feel the need use the cleaning stuff ourselves.
The bathroom had two doors one to the main room and one to the bedroom so you had to make sure you locked and unlocked both! There was a huge shower and separate bath plus two basins and vanity units.
We gave this suite to my daughter and partner and my son and his partner while we had the efficiency studio suit next door. We left the inter- connecting door unlocked all the time we were there.
The efficiency Studio:
This had a kitchenette with enough to reheat, wash up and that is about it. There were enough plates, glasses and cutlery in both suites for the people it accommodated so we did have to bring stuff back and forth.
Our main room had a sofa and a chair and a Queen sized ‘Murphy bed’ that came down from the wall. These are so much more comfortable than a sofa bed, they are actually as good as a normal bed and although very heavy to put away they make for a very neat and space efficient way of having a bed in a sitting room.
Our bathroom only had a shower but it was a very large one with a decent shower head. The basin and unit around it provided plenty of storage for toiletries and there was a good hairdryer in both bathrooms.
BOTH:
Both units had flat screen cable TVs with dvd / video player, there was also a stereo in each room.
FOOD:
As this was a self catering accommodation no food was supplied and I am not even sure there was a restaurant on site, in fact I believe there was no restaurant on site but they would assist with take away and delivery to the rooms should you want to use these services. There were so many places to eat at close by that this was no problem.
BUSINESS SUITE
There was no wifi in the rooms but there were about six computers in this ‘business’ suite that any of the guest could use to access the internet. There was always someone on the computers and sometimes you had to hang around and wait. Fortunately people were pretty polite and if others were waiting they did get off after about ten minutes.
THE POOL:
This was a real bonus as the pool was on the roof so you got to enjoy the sunshine and the view as well as the pool. This was a good sized pool and there were plenty of umbrellas and shaded areas. Towels were provided and you just helped yourself to them and popped them into the laundry tub as you went back down again.
THE GYM:
There was a gym but I have to admit that only my son went to investigate and he came back saying it was quite well equipped and had had a good work out. You had to be over 18 to use this facility.
OTHER EXTRAS
There was a BBQ area up on the roof which guests could use but you had to get up there early. We ate out most of the time as getting meat and salads etc was more trouble and meant finding a supermarket and getting the car out.
You could hire dvds from the main desk, there was a small book exchange and there were also games booth electronic and physical board type ones you could borrow.
There was a spa where you could book various treatments but we had too much else to do so didn’t try any of these.
THE BEST PART:
We loved the accommodation and were very happy with everything in the Polo Towers except it would have been nice to have free wifi in the individual suites as it seems to be in every hotel in the USA however we were not in that much so it wasn’t a huge problem.
The best part about this place was its location, next door to the Planet Hollywood Casino right in the middle of the strip. We could walk either way easily; to the right as we went out and we would pass planet Hollywood and soon be at the Bellagio and the Paris Casino and if we went to the left then the MGM and the New York were both within an easy walk.
The bus stop was just outside the hotel on the strip and if you wanted to go the other way all you had to do was cross the road and hop on the bus the other way. We were able to take the bus down to Fremont Street and back with no problem and we also used the bus to get to Caesars’ Palace where we had to change buses to get to Rio as my son and his partner went to see Penn and Teller so we joined them for a meal in the buffet at the Rio before they went in.
If we went back to Las Vegas we would stay here again as it was a perfect location, free parking in a secure car park and the accommodation was everything we could ask for too. It may not be the Bellagio but it was a heck of a lot cheaper and in a very similar position and the suites were both very comfortable and well appointed for self catering and all we needed for our stay and more.
