This was classed as a 3-star hotel on the internet, but I thought it seemed higher.

It has a large lobby with marble floors and chandelier lighting. It is always busy, but kept immaculately. The rooms were fairly small with a separate well-equipped bathroom. We had a double bed and dark wood furniture included two bedside cabinets, a wardrobe, and desk. There was also a TV.

The hotel is located next to Penn Station and opposite Madison Square Garden. It is a two-minute walk from Macy's, five minutes to the Empire State Building, and 10 minutes to Times Square. It was on a room-only basis and I would stay here again.

This place is a meathouse! If you can avoid it, then AVOID it. We will NEVER stay at this location again. The rooms (well, the room we were in) were terrible. They should have been deemed uninhabitable. The carpet was old and dirty. The wallpaper was peeling. The furniture looked like it came from the Salvation Army. Totally the pits!

Cheap and cheerful. Clean, but very basic. Do not, I repeat, do not go here if you like luxury whatsoever. It is fine for a budget trip as you won't spend much time in it.

We stayed 5 nights at the Hotel Pennsylvania, and found it to be ok. The rooms are average size, but not especialy clean. They are cleaned daily, just not very well. The decor is very old fashioned, but this wasn't a problem. The bathroom was reasonable, and the hot water was always available, but the shower head was too low. The staff was a mixed bag, some are great, some are rude. The reason I would stay at the pennsylvania again is the location. It is literally on the same road as Times Square, two roads from 5th Avenue and near lots of other great sites like the Empire State Building and Madison Square Garden. It is also easy to get to Greenwich village from here as it is just down 7th avenue southward bound.

The lobby is a time warp into a world of 1950's art deco. A trip down the halls can almost seem like a walk through the mountain house in The Shining - there is an old sort of elegance to the decor. Rooms, in traditional New York fashion, are small but cozy and will be simply decked out in greens and dark blues. For a comfortable nights stay in the heart of New York City, Hotel Pennsylvania is a great choice.
