Beware

Just finished a 5 night stay at this resort. If our condo is an example what the others are like-Beware! Our carpet was so dirty and old that we went to Walmart and bought flip-flops so we could walk around. The sealant around the tub and vanity was or had fallen off. The deck's paint was flaking in large spots. If I was to put a single word to the unit I would have to use "dump". The grounds were pretty and the ducks and geese were a nice addition. Don't waste your points or money on this place.

Another Nice Timeshare in Williamsburg

We own a timeshare in Williamsburg but for this trip, my sister rented a two bedroom unit through a rental service. I was very impressed with the overall quality of the unit and the resort complex itself.
Our two bedroom unit included a large living room/dining room combo with a spacious full sized kitchen. Fully equipped for six guests, we were very comfortable with all of the space and seating available. The sofa was a queen size sleeper, making it possible for six adults to stay here comfortably.
The master bedroom had a king size bed with drawers and closet space suitable for a week or two vacation. The master bathroom was also roomy, the shower actually huge!
The other bedroom had two twin beds and is connected by a slider pocket door to the second bathroom. There is also access to the bathroom from the hallway, making this a max six capacity with privacy rating of six as well.
Off of the living room was a very nice patio area with a table and six chairs. It was here that we enjoyed a morning beverage as the ducks and geese passed by with their young. But the most surprising thing included in this timeshare resort unit was the sun room complete with a four person hot tub!
When we arrived the hot tub was empty for sanitation purposes. After a lengthy fill and a couple of hours of warm up, the tub was ready for relaxing after a long day of touring Colonial Williamsburg.
It is possible to rent weeks here at Powhatan Plantation Resort directly from owners or through vacation rental companies. For this four day weekend, the price was around $100/night . . . not bad considering the wonderful accommodations and overall resort amenities.
Speaking of those amenities, this resort has well manicured park-like areas to include several ponds, shoreline gazebos and a playground for the kids. Next to the swings and slides, there was also a small mini-golf course (available for a fee).
They have in outdoor swimming pool which was not open this early in the spring, so for those visiting outside of the summer season, the indoor pool with have to do. In the same building as the pool is a small fitness center.
There are also two restaurants on the property (see separate review).
I would not hesitate to stay here again, and in fact do look forward to taking my hubby there perhaps some fall or perhaps over the Grand Illumination in December.

The Powhatan Plantation Resort that we thought we were exchanging would have been nice...even great; except that management was remodeling it just when we got there. They placed a huge construction dumpster in the parking lot the whole time we were there (but gratefully did not use it) AND starting going in and tearing the place apart as we were packing our bags to leave! Talk about not letting the door hit you in the ____ on the way out! The rooms definitely did need redecorating/refurbishing but they could have been a little classier about leaving the dumpster as a reminder! It gave us a feeling of not being welcome.
The 2 bedroom/baths were roomy enough but mom complained that the bath in her room was difficult for a senior to get in and out of. I am sure that is probably one of the items they are changing. Wallpaper was dated but I liked it. Kitchen was big enough for 3 of us and had all of the amenities. Living room was fine as well.
Location was close enough to drive to Williamsburg but becasue there are 2 roads ironically named "Ironbound" we did get mixed up a few times. A GPS is a good idea.

The resort was a pleasant surprise, and our unit was much nicer than I expected. The unit was very spacious; we didn’t feel like we had to get out to enjoy ourselves. The hot tub and all appliances worked well. A full kitchen with cooking supplies saves lots of money on food. The washer and dryer in the unit were handy. The floors in the unit could have used cleaning, and so could the hot tub. The staff were helpful and we were not harassed to attend the presentation. The grill was overpriced, as was the general store, but there’s a shopping strip very close that has grocery and restaurants. The indoor pool was OK, but could have used a good cleaning. The grounds around the manor house are nice, and the location of the resort is great because it's close to everything and all the historical sites are within a 30-minute drive. We would go back again.

Resort Experience:
The place was clean and everything we needed was there. The customer-service staff was courteous and helpful. We arrived early in the morning, around 2am, when it was dark and we were lost. The security on duty helped us get to our destination without any problem. The amenities were good, although they needed a bigger swimming area to accommodate all their guests. Otherwise, everything was good.
