Hotel Royal Plaza

I decided to stay at the Royal Plaza because of it's location to Downtown Disney. I was going to go see a concert at the House of Blues and I wanted a close place to stay. I would have to say it's less than a ½ mile from Downtown Disney. The hotel itself is nicer than I expected. The lobby is very spacious and is adorned with crown molding and modern and classical furniture. The colors remind me of the Caribbean... light creams and blues. Very nice.

My room was on the first floor towards the back. The room itself is very nice. It had two queen beds and a small sofa. The walls were a nice soft green...very soothing. The room had floor to ceiling windows. Unfortunately, I didn't have the best view but that didn't matter to me. The bathroom was on the smaller side but it was okay for me. If there were more than two people it would be really small. The bathroom came with Bath and Body Works products for use. And they had my favorite... Cucumber Melon... which was a plus.

I was unable to check out many of the amenities (i.e. pool, restaurants), as I was only there for one night. However, I had breakfast at the Giraffe Cafe. Very filling breakfast for a reasonable price. I did use the valet parking at first but they tend to be a bit slow so I chose to use the regular parking after the concert. I would have to say that would be the only bad thing about the hotel... was the valet parking. Otherwise, everything else went smoothly. The front desk was helpful, room service was pretty quick, and the rest of the staff was very nice also.

From journal One Day In Downtown Disney (Orlando)

Hotel Royal Plaza

When I checked in, lines were short, but it took over 35 minutes to get checked in. When I got to my room finally, my room card did not work and I had to go back down to front desk and get them to program it again. This went on four times. When I finally got a working card and got into my room, I noticed that the room looked very worn and outdated: the carpet very worn in places, there were cracks in the tiles in the bathroom, the tub was water-stained, and the room had a really damp smell to it. I then tried to get a shower and had no water pressure and barely warm water.

I went and looked at their restaurant in house, and it has a very limited selection and was extremely overpriced for amount of food. I did not eat there after hearing people complain about food and went to Downtown Disney instead. I would not tell anyone to ever stay here for the price I paid, $200 a night, when a room at a Holiday Inn would have put this hotel to shame.

A little nicer than the average hotel. We were on the second to the top floor and had a garden style whirpool in the room. From what I''ve read, all the rooms have garden style tubs/showers. I think the King bed rooms have a seperate shower?? Had a seperate sitting area. Bath and Body Works samples in the bathroom. A phone in the bathroom! Room Service was good. Also had a tiny bar/fridge with snacks under the TV. Bus to Disney.
