The one bedroom unit was on the ground floor outside the elevator and ice machine with only one window overlooking a van which was parked so close you could touch it from inside the room. Also, outside the room window was a parking lot light. This made the room well lit when it came time to sleep. Our room smelled like smoke and mold. We purchased candles and air freshener to try to cover the smell. The indoor heated pool was an outdoor pool with a tent. This resort would not accommodate my reservation during a holiday since they were closed and would not mail us a key. I expected an iron/ironing board to be inside this room-however it was not. The sofa sleeper bed was lower on one side than the other. The heating unit was in the bedroom closet beside the bed. Every time the heat came on-it would roar. I asked for an upgrade 3 times with each time the person telling me that it would be possible, but never did call me. She acted like I was hindering her every time I asked to be upgraded to a different room. She did tell me that she would try since the room I was in was “a little dark.” We reserved 1 week and stayed 1 night in this horrible nasty smelling place. I would not even rate this place a 1. It was truly the worst experience I have ever had with RCI or with even a hotel. When I returned home I contacted RCI, they informed me to be aware of Resorts rated as RCI Hospitality. If you are considering this resort, please be aware that this place is not your usual Holiday Inn!

Best Things Nearby:
Myrtle Beach has so much for families to do: mini-golf, shows, amusement parks, and of course, the beach!

Best Things About the Resort:
It's on the beach. It's in Myrtle Beach.

Resort Experience:
I had an oceanview unit in Riptide II confirmed. The woman at the front desk was very nice in moving me oceanfront to be near an oceanfront unit I was going to rent for the week, another one-bedroom. When I arrived at the resort, however, I cancelled my exchange and rental (losing a night's room and tax). While the people working there were very nice, I could not say the same about the resort.

Parking is very limited and extremely difficult to navigate with my SUV. Overflow parking is across the street and up the hill.

Riptide II looks a bit nicer than Riptide I (if that's possible). The building seemed like it was under construction or never finished. Plywood on the walls, unpainted, etc. The smell was awful, both in the halls and in the rooms. Rooms were dark. Bedspreads and curtains were old and stinky. Pool looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a long while.

The best part of the resort was the view. It is on the beach. While it is convenient to restaurants and shopping, it is also right in the "heart" of the action...a bit too many people and cars, etc. I prefer to have a little more elbow room on the beach. For that reason, I've learned to look into North Myrtle Beach, Surfside or Garden City for future stays.

Many of the properties on Myrtle Beach seemed to be in the same state of disrepair as Riptide. I checked out several hotels and timeshares and found the rooms to be small and dingy.

I would rate this property on the same level as a one- to two-star motel. Some people love staying here. I need a little better.

Best Things About the Resort:

Resort Experience:
The one-bedroom unit was very small and was situated on the ground floor. We were about 60 yards from a major road, which resulted in a lot of noise. Our unit did not have a balcony or patio. We looked directly out onto the parking lot and if we opened the bedroom window, we could touch the car that was parked there. We were very disappointed in this resort and tried to be moved to a higher floor or at least further back from the street. We were told there was a good chance this could be arranged, but nothing happened.

I really liked the Riptide. It was right on the beach, the staff was accommodating in every way, and even though the amenites were somewhat dated, they were clean, and you had a whole ocean right outside to enjoy!! I had been prewarned that the parking was limited onsite -- that's not unusual on the beach, but about half the time, we had parking onsite and the other half of the time, we put our car in a free garage about a block away. We could always load and unload in the "loading zone" without any problem.

Best Things About the Resort:
central location

Resort Experience:
The unit we stayed in was older, but very well kept. The unit was very nicely decorated and had a full kitchen. It was very roomy. It had a large Jacuzzi tub and a queen size bed in the separate bedroom. There was also a pull out queen size bed in the living/dining room. It could accommodate 4 adults, however, we found it just right for a couple.
