Best Things Nearby:
Beautiful sunsets off beach, close proximity to Los Arcos, an easy walk (or cab) into town for shopping & dining and to the marina, but far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the city and rowdy late night drinking crowds.
Best Things About the Resort:
Location, newer units in the Palapa Club
Resort Experience:
We spent another week in Cabo, this time at the Finisterra in a one-bedroom unit. We were originally booked into the Hacienda Del Mar, but RCI had to move us to another resort because of an overbooking at the HDM. RCI gave us an extra one-bedroom condo in an effort to "make good", so we invited my sister along.
We absolutely loved this resort and the newer timeshare units are very nice and well stocked. We are rather frugal vacationers (another way of saying cheap) so we brought a lot of food with us. We packed frozen stuff in a cooler that was checked as baggage – it arrived still frozen. The customs agents in Cabo said we were not allowed to bring in our own meat/dairy into Mexico, but they let us through with only a warning and let us keep our stuff. We packed perishables in a carryon (eggs, produce) and boxed foods (cereal, snacks) in another checked bag. With all this food, we were able to keep our spending at the resort low. We ate breakfast and snacks in the room and had some light meals at the pool and/or Whale Watcher bar up on the hill (happy hour prices are quite good).
My sister took us out to dinner at Mi Casa / Su Casa one night (kind of touristy, but great food and great atmosphere). There are a few small liquor/grocery stores a short walk into town where you can get snacks, beer etc. The resort does not allow you to bring your own drinks to the pool (understandably). We did some shopping in town for the traditional Mexican blue, hand blown drinking glasses – with a list price of $5 or $6 per glass, we were able to negotiate them down to $2 each so we bought a set of 10.
We took the water taxi out to Los Arcos one day and forgot to make note of the name of the boat! Be warned that the water taxi drops you off IN the water close to the beach there, and there are a few guys who hang out on the beach to help people off and back on the taxis – they expect a tip, so be sure to bring a few bucks each, otherwise they will not be inclined to help you back on the water taxi when you leave. You WILL get wet. Once at Los Arcos, we hiked up to the top of the hill, took some really cool photos and hiked back down. I wore the water shoes (beach shoes), which worked well getting in/out of the water taxi, but wished I had hiking boots or tennis shoes for the hike.
We signed up for the timeshare presentation in the Finisterra lobby for the new resort next door and were given a $100 room credit which just about covered our bar bill.
