Tanoa International Hotel

Price was moderate- to high-end, hard to say exactly since it was rolled into a larger vacation package. A very nice hotel with all the amenities you could want. Very nice, and also very sleek and businesslike.

Though we enjoyed our stay here and felt it was a very nice introduction to Fiji (it was our first stop after the airport), really, it's nothing more than a very nice, well-run hotel on a tropical island. Service was good. Breakfasts were very good, the tiny bar is adequate. Has enough of a pool to let you relax after a long flight. Has an average exercise room. Since Nadi isn't a particularly beautiful town, don't make this your base of operations. This is a really good choice for people flying in late or leaving early the next day (we checked in around 2am local time, I think).

Caution for souvenir hunters: It might not seem "authentic" enough for you, but you'll get the same cannibal forks and masks (and likely a higher quality model) in the hotel gift shop at a much cheaper price than you'll pay in the tourist trap stores in town. By all means, walk around town, do a kava ceremony if you want, but if you're going to donate 8-times the price you'd pay for an item elsewhere, make sure you do so for only one item. And a cheap one at that. I think I recall seeing the masks sold for $20-and-up in the town, while at the hotel it was something like $5.
