TERRIBLE HOTEL AND CUSTOMER SERVICE!

I recently came back from my honeymoon and stayed at this hotel. I do not recommend staying here. You think you get a nice hotel from the pictures, but they do not include the nasty converted trailer they turned into hotel rooms. When you get there they charge a "City-Tax" that you have to pay in cash. They don't give you a receipt for the so called "City-Tax" and it just seems shady. The hotel trailer rooms are across from the actual hotel and of course they didn't add any photos of that because based off of that, you wouldn't want to stay there. The bathrooms in that room are terribly uncomfortable, musky, and just plain disgusting. The one shelf that was in there was broken, the shower drain is placed on the opposite side of where the water runs so you had to shove water with your foot to prevent flooding, and the toilet is smaller than any toilet I have seen. We requested to be moved and we were helped by the most rude and arrogant employee there. Eventually we were moved the next morning and we ended up paying $ Euros on top of what we already paid to be moved to a room that was actually a part of the hotel. That room was definitely better, but only by a small fraction. The shower leaked water everywhere onto the floor, which we had to mop up with the towels. We placed the "Do Not Disturb" sign on our door, but that means nothing to them. They end up coming in anyway. The hotel is located in the middle of nowhere and it's about a 15-20 min tram ride into downtown. Not worth all the hassle and would not recommend to anyone.

Would stay there again!

We were on a budget, and looking for a good price on a motel. We ended up spending less than * a night for three people. This did not include breakfast. Considering the low price, I thought the motel would be run down, but it was nice. The room was clean, and the beds were comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and spoke very good English. We are very pleased we did not get the breakfast option. It is not cheap, and better food and deals are available elsewhere. One thing that their website does not mention is that there is an added charge for parking, I believe about 12.5 euros a night. We thought this was worth it for the protection of the car being in a locked lot at night. There is no free street parking available close by that I know of. The walk to the tram is about .25 to .5 mile. The tram ride to Dam Square is about one-half hour. A bus stop is closer, but the trams are really convenient. We left the car parked the whole time we were there, and took the tram. Parking prices are high in downtown Amsterdam. The downtown is relatively small, and we did a lot of walking.

First of all they charge you an additional city tax even though on our reservation it is noted as fare includes all taxes. Secondly the place is very far from the city. Thirdly the stuff was not helpful. They didnt tell everthing a customer should know. For example.. once you buy a password for wireless internet you need to use all minutes at once. And they supposed to call me a taxi cab for airport at a specific time but they just forget and I had to go and remind them two more times. At the end I took a taxi cab that just drop off someone to the hotel. Lastly, stuff was rude in general .

Having travelled and stayed in many hotels in UK and Europe, I was pleased with my choice of HEM Hotel. The room lighting was not bright enough for me, but the room and bathroom were clean and the bed was comfortable. Even with the window open at night, the noise from traffic on the viaduct opposite, was minimal and I had no trouble sleeping. However, tea or coffee making facilities would have been useful. The situation of the Hotel, in a residential area, is fine, and I never felt threatened walking to and from the Westlandgracht tram stop, even late at night. There is a 20 minute journey to the city centre by tram, but many stops of interest on the way. For eating purposes, Leidseplein has many dozens of restaurants of varying menus and prices. A vey popular area, but I had no problem finding a table at which to eat. All in all, the Hotel was ideally situated away from, but within easy reach, of the city centre and the many attractions of Amsterdam.
