A decent find

I tried this place because it was close to the financial district where I needed to be. Pros of the place are that it has a relatively decent design, (most?) units contain kitchenettes & in-suite laundry, the hotel is convenient to just about everything in the downtown core and the zen design of the room was fairly good (although not outstanding). The hotel is located on a fairly bland-looking stretch although the scenery improves dramatically when you go a couple of blocks in just about any direction. And the beds are ok but I would only give it an average comfort rating.
The first night that I was there, I had a north-facing room which overlooked the courtyard of the surrounding buildings. This would have been ok if not for the noise from the AC system of the building next door which I found to be quite loud for sleeping purposes (luckily I packed earplugs). There was some occasional noise from the streetcar as well. Try to avoid rooms on the north side if possible! I stayed a couple of additional nights in a south-facing room and found this room to be very quiet (it overlooked Colbourne St which gets little traffic) so definitely request this type of room when checking in.
Overall, a convenient hotel with good amenities that I would stay at again (subject to getting a south-facing room).
CUTE, BUT NOT WORTH IT

The hotel was very modern, very zen as they say. But not comfy, stay friendly. The rooms are extremely small. As I believe they play "room favoritism" because their all not the same. But of course, you will only find out after checking in and inquiring with the housekeepers. Furniture very cute, but not comfortable to lounge on. The best part is the comfortable bed, as I guess they had to give you something for squeezing up in the room to get to it. Nice place, but truly over rated for the prices, when there are bigger, better hotels, same price around the corner.
Not a Zen experience

This is the first time I've felt the need to complain on online travel website.
The Cosmopolitan Hotel looks peaceful enough w/ its Japanese decor, but be forewarned, my wife and I felt it came up short in many ways (even if the rate was less). Too much facade and not enough substance.
Confusion at the desk reigns as it seems only three people work there per shift and seemingly do ALL the tasks. So concierge info was spotty at best, no bellboy service was offered, someone else's luggage was in our room when we arrived. The phones malfunctioned. No baths in the upper floor suites, so we took a lower, smaller room and even then, the water never got hot. The "Executive breakfast" was basic fare that was not replenished when depleted. This included coffee w/ an hour of breakfast remaining. A request for wake call was botched and we nearly missed our bus tour.
In all fairness, the employees appear to be doing their best and I suspect the real problem is not enough manpower and no real attention to details.
Finally, DO NOT PAY AN UPCHARGE FOR THE "LAKE ONTARIO VIEW"! In theory, perhaps such a thing exists, but I didn't see it. What I did see was a sliver of water behind a littany of dirty lower rooftops (I took photos; too bad I can't post). For this, I paid about $* extra per day. Clearly a ripoff. What wasn't clear was how much of a hassle it was going to be to get my money back (we refused the room and settled for the smallest existing suite). Calling the online travel website customer assistance 1-800 # was truly a downer and a HUGE waste of time. I had to google the corporate sales office to get a competent satisfaction.
Good spot, good rooms

The Cosmopolitan can be a little intimidating for someone who's not used to this idea of a "zen retreat" but really it means no bad hotel art and great bedding. It's a healthy walk to Chinatown or Kensington Market, but very close to the St. Lawrence Market and the ferry docks. Park at the public lot at Colburne and Church for much less than at the hotel - just a half a block away and about $*CAN for the weekend. Also NB - our room had nearly a full kitchen (everything but an oven and staples like olive oil) so if you like to hit the public market and then prepare your own meal, you'll have the means at the Cosmopolitan. That was a very pleasant surprise.

I loved this hotel !!!
It was very clean and very relaxing. When I walked into the room, soothing music was playing and the style/feel of the room was outstanding. The service was great and the staff was very friendly. The breakfast in the morning was nice, but the dining area could have been a little nicer. Breakfast including waffles, bagels, danishes, coffee, juice, cheese, yogurt, cereal, etc. Parking was $29 per day, but you must pay for parking everywhere you stay in Toronto.
The best part of my trip was this hotel !! I'd recommend it to everyone, especially those who enjoy a "Zen" atmosphere...
