November 17, 2009 arrived in Milano from Bern Switzerland. But the room ...Read more November 17, 2009 arrived in Milano from Bern Switzerland. It wasnt hard to find this hotel, it is supposed to be 3 star + The receptionist was a really affable and friendly Italian and he gave me a room with a double bed and deep bath! But the room had dirty carpet or really old stained carpet I couldnt really tell, but they need to pull it up ASAP. Anyway if you dont look at the carpet it wasnt a bad room. with amble bed, great bathroom lots of towels and a well stocked bar fridge but not free. Nor was internet which was 5 euro. Not worth it in money terms.

Breakfast was interesting, if you dont get to the basement by 0730 am there are no eggs left. Service is hit and miss in this area, the waitresses are under pressure to perform and are hard working and kind but when all the guests want a cappucino there is only 1 machine so hello! long wait but the girls running the kitchen do their best. The cleaning ladied do their job as well so overall the staff are top notch.

There is a good assortment of food for breakfast thou but no fresh fruit.

Milano is a dirty modern city. It may be fashion capital but is covered in dirty air pollution. I lasted 2 days and felt sick from the smog by the end of the second.

So make it a quick trip and then out. The Italians are very hospitable and always on the go so there are no problems in that department. The Terminal Train Station is a massive Mussolini style Deco ICON and one can only imagine the Fascist banners hanging from the eaves over 70 years ago. But it is a work of art itself and lends itself to the modern day traveller.

The Metro is confusing and I decided to walk to the Galleria and the Cathedral. Both worth the visit. The Galleria is a beautiful domed work of art but spoiled by a McDonalds at the centre those GOLDEN Arches take away from the magic.

There are also orange trams you can board and travel around on and you can also marvel at the Lombardia Bldg opposite the train station. Food is good in Milano, but take a hint eat indoors to escape the fumes. The italians dont seem bothered by it but personally I would not want to live in this city. You can take your cat walk in your dreams, because whatever you buy and wear here you will have to wash as well as your hair as soon as you get back to your hotel.

I visited Milano 20 years ago and it has progressed into a congested dirty mess. Close
