Our stay at the Montebello Splendid was more than splendid--it was fantastic.
We were offered a room upgrade when we arrived on Saturday and the room was just lovely. The staff were friendly and helpful, and I would not hesitate to book again.
The hotel is in a quiet area about 10 minutes walk from the historic center. Walking to the Ponte Vecchio takes about 15 minutes. The hotel itself is gorgeous and breakfast was wonderful.
We appreciated all the extra touches and it made all the difference. I would recommend the hotel to anyone in a heartbeat.
Lovely, but offers less than wonderful service

The hotel was nearly impossible to find. We walked around for an hour at 10pm trying to locate it but since there are no recognizable signs we just kept turning in circles, even though locals kept giving us directions. In addition, I emailed the hotel nearly 2 weeks prior to my stay there to ask about its location in conjunction to a specific point where bus tours leave from so that I could book an excursion. Since they never responded to my inquiry, I was unable to book the excursion (since I did not know if it would be possible to reach the tour's location). When I arrived at the hotel I asked if they could book the excursion for me and when they tried, it was completely booked for the time I was to be in Florence. When I mentioned that I inquired about this weeks ago, their response was "Well, even if we did get back to you there is no guarantee that it would have been available anyways." The concierge did call around to find another tour (of a different kind) that was available, which was appreciated, but since I went to Florence specifically to visit the hills of Tuscany it was a great disappointment to miss the original tour. The food was amazing, though. I would go back just to eat there from their breakfast buffet and to indulge in their dinners and desserts!
