I was extremely impressed by the Duane Street Hotel. This was our second stay in a hotel in Manhattan. This was by far the better stay. I didn't think that the room was small at all, by New York City standards. The turn down service was so sweet. The room was very functional, great amenities, helpful staff (they had umbrellas available to use). The hotel was very close to several subway stations and lots of restaurants and eateries. Unfortunately, I can't give this hotel 5 stars. If I had been staying at this hotel just my husband and I, I would have given 5 stars. However, my in-laws were staying in another room in the hotel and had a bad experience. They had a bag full of souveniers sitting on the floor that was either thrown away by housekeeping or stolen. It is likely that it was thrown away, as the bag was sitting close to the trash can. However, in my opinion, housekeeping shouldn't touch anything unless it is actually IN the trash can. Sadly, the hotel staff didn't do anything to compensate for the loss of the souveniers. They claimed to sort through the trash and came up with nothing. The disheartening part about it, though, is that I read a review from someone else saying that they had * stolen from their hotel room here. So, in conclusion, I would definitely stay here again, but just be very cautious of what you leave laying around.
incredibly small rooms!

my husband and i got to our room and couldn't believe how small it was. it was clean and new but so small we could hardly move. the toilet seat was broke, the shower had bad water pressure, and they only gave us 2 towels--we also had to ask for toilet paper because there was none.
the bed was comfy but as we tried to sleep we figured out our room was directly above the subway track by the loud noise we heard throughout the night. we were awakend by the staff slamming doors and yelling profanities at each other. we couldn't wait to get out of this place.
our view out the window was of heaps of garbage and a dirty street.
the front desk person was friendly but we will NEVER come back to this hotel again!

I think we had the smallest room on our floor if the fire escape map was right, but the space is efficiently designed and the bed was comfortable. My only problems with this hotel were the very expensive breakfast we ate ( I know my french toast wasn't made from Wonder Bread but it sure looked like it) and the overhead shower (very hard to keep one's hair dry).
The techno music was so fun I couldn't help but dance a little on every elevator ride. And I wasn't alone. Some other guy was doing it too.
Tribecca is way more interesting than Times Square. I'd stay here again.

The hotel was great! Nice location that was a quick walk to the financial district. Easy access to subways (which were wonderful after doing one ride just to figure them out). Nice corner market 2 blocks away for fresh fruit. Very comfortable beds and quiet rooms. Decorated like an IKEA store model. Bring your own wine - theirs is expensive. They fill up the ice bucket every evening around 5 pm. Take the subway to Brooklyn and walk back across the Brooklyn bridge to the hotel at sunset!

Just returned home from a stay at Duane St hotel. The concierge
* was charming and most helpful and helped us in every way possible. The rooms were very clean and the hotel had a quiet ambience and european flair. The hotel was located near many very good restaurants and especially loved Bouley Bakery. The best croissants ev er! I would highly recommend this hotel and will stay there on my next trip up. We really enjoyed the minimalist look of the hotel.Great if you suffer from allergies, very green.
