Good location

This hotel is well situated to many important sites; and public transportation. The staff was very professional, and helpful. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The area felt very safe. There were many good restaurants within walking distance to the hotel. I would recommend this hotel to friends and considering staying there again.

Among Worst "Luxury" Experiences Ever

Long Story Short: The people at this hotel gave me a bed - in a $500+/nite room... that not only was not clean - the sheets were covered in - a lot - of blood.

Very bad for me - I did not realize this until the morning.

I had to shower to remove all of - some other person's - dried blood from my skin.

Just a horrific experience.

WORSE: Mgt was literally & completely - unresponsive.

Departing after my late one-night stay... early in the a-m... all of a sudden nobody behind the desk spoke English (completely non-credible) & while I believe I got them to understand the issue clearly - they gave me a card suggesting I write to "info@mecenatepalace.com" - to discuss the situation.

Charged me the full rack rate.

I wrote to that address & many others I pulled from their website on my return... even called them from the US... and I mean - literally - nobody has ever responded... for a few months now.

I'm done even trying to talk to them.

And shifting my focus to make others more aware of this completely inept group.

Wouldn't return if it were free & with an inspector.

As you can tell by the dates we recently visited Rome. Although we did encounter a mass transit strike for 3 days our visit was very pleasant. The hotel and staff were very efficient. We did not speak Italian and the staff tried to help us. I did not find them overly friendly, however we weren't there to make friends and they already have friends. The accomadations were for more than we expected. We booked the trip through online travel with a certain price in mind. We certainly got more for our money! I hope to travel to Ireland within the next year. I will use online travel again. So I guess this review is for both the hotel and online travel . Thanks to all for a GREAT trip to Rome for this MOM and SON!

Excellent Hotel

We stayed 5 nights at this hotel in July 07. The staff and rooms were great. The location is excellent: a few blocks from the train station, close enough to walk there in 5 minutes, but far enough away from the "train station environment". There's a beautiful church with piazza right next to the hotel. Ancient Rome (Colosseum, etc) is a 10 minute walk from the hotel, as is the Trevi fountain. The Spanish Steps are a little further, maybe 15 minute walk, but it feels like half that. There's also a subway stop a block from the hotel to take you to the Vatican.

The Horel Mrecanate Palace was a quiet and charming hotel in Rome. The closness to the train station, Termini, the tour and city buses and access to the airport were within walking distance. The room was small but the bathroom and other ammenities were included. The rooftop terrace was very picturesque and comfortable for the single traveler as well. The staff spoke English and were very pleasant.
