Overall we had a very good Honeymoon.
Good: Facilities were clean, pools and beach were nice, staff was friendly, food and drink were abundant.
-A $5-$10 tip each night to the head bartender (although it never seemed expected) made sure we never had an empty glass and had plenty of stories and laughs wherever we went.
-The AC in the room worked very well and was very refreshing.
-The food was not consistent quality at the buffets however there was so much and so many places to go we always found something no matter what time of day or night it was.
-Everything we did was paid for in US dollars, no need to convert to Jamaican, some places it seemed would not take Jamaican or it was a hassle to do so. We got some Jamaican change but kept it for souvenirs.
-Dunns River Falls is a must see, Fern Gully was not that impressive but it was included in a tour package, the local shopping tour is mostly shacks with the exact same "handmade" artsy stuff that you will be relentlessly pressured to buy. Luminous Lagoon was pricey for what it involved but is a once in a lifetime experience and I am glad we did it.
Bad: There is no airport shuttle, we booked through the website and were not made aware of this so we had to scramble when we arrived and when we left to make arrangements at one of the bus tour companies (Taxis are expensive) it ended up being $40US/person each way.
-The Beds were firm but comfortable.
-As with many mega hotels, the shower water pressure and temperature were erratic.
-TV channels were good but some were static and would fade in and out.

The room in the hotel are very nice. The main dining hall has a huge selection and I was satisfied with the food on every occasion. The Japanese restaurant food was a little above average, however the service across the board lacks a little when compared with other places I have stayed. Don' t expect to be waited on hand and foot like some five star resorts. No one will come out to the beach to take drink request, you must go to the bars each time and get your own beverage. There are no mixed drinks in the main dining hall unless you walk out to the bar a good ways away and get it yourself. The grounds are noce and the spa is okay. They have a good size work out center. The best part of the hotel was that all water sports are truly on the premises for a reasonable price. Para sailing, sailboats, windsurfing, wave runners, scuba diving etc. Those that run the water sports and daily activites are very friendly and add to the experience. The pools are nice as well. The hotel is about seven minutes car ride from the Ocho shopping area, but way to far to walk. I would say the overall experience is above average but not outstanding.
bring lots of tip money

I had the wort vacation of my life the staff wont pay you any mind unless you are tipping them. The food was so bad i think i lost lbs . the house keeping staff didnt clean the room unless you asked them to clean your room. All they did was bring clean towels they didnt make the bed or sweep the floor. They have a steak house its the worst if you like food that you can eat stay away from this place. The pool was not clean they only clean the outside of the pool and not the inside and the middle of the pool it was full of trash if you can go to another hotel save your self the problems and go

My daughter and I have been to Jamaica previously, and the first time we stayed at Sunset Jamaica Grande. We liked it alot, and wanted to stay there again, but couldn't because of the booking times. So we decided to go with the Riu Ocho Rios. This was by far the most beautiful hotel we've stayed at. The staff was great, and very accomodating. The food was great, the entertainment was awesome! Every night we we're there, there was a show. It was fun for me as well as my daughter. The pools were the best! They were huge, and the swim up bar was great! It was sooo much fun, never ever a dull moment. We had an excellent experience, too bad we couldn't stay longer. There is no doubt that we will return!!
The only thing that we didn't like was the beds. The first night we arrived late, and the beds... well, it was like sleeping on the floor. The next morning we went to the front desk and asked if there was anything they could do, and sure enough, right away they fixed it. They added about five layers of thick comforters and it was a lot better.
Other than that this vacation, the hotel, the service, it was all fantastic!!!
