Beautiful Experience

My husband and I went here for my sister's wedding on the beach, which was beautiful. The Riu wedding coordinators were helpful, organized, and professional. They did their best to supply all of my sister's needs. The Riu is extraordinary! There plenty of activities. The entertainment is wonderful. The service personnel at the front desk, the waiters and waitresses and cleaning staff were professional and courteous, for the most part. However, the Riu operators were not always friendly when calling for information. It is a good idea to take plenty of single bills -- it is difficult to get change for American dollars. Tipping is appreciated -- the service staff depends heavily on tips for their livelihood. The tiled floors and wood trim throughout the facility was beautiful and was so much better than carpeting; one reason the Riu was able to keep things so clean. We were impressed to see someone actually cleaning the light fixtures along the veranda. The view was superb from the balcony of our standard room. However, we did have to ask them to replace washcloths and towels a couple of times. The buffets were a great mixture of Jamaican and American choices -- most, very good. The ice cream was creamy and rich. But, the desert table needed more variety -- everything was soft -- too many cheese cakes and mouses. Make your ground transportation reservations to the airport at least two days before your departure -- the buses fill up quickly- you pay for reservation in cash.

The hotel was beautiful. The food was tastless. It was a hassel booking into the alacarte restaurants. You had to be in line at 7:00am to get a seat. If you didn't get into a alacarte you were stuck with the buffet. None of the food impresed us at all.

We had the most wonderful time at the Riu- Ocho Rio. The staff could not have been any better. The entertainment was a lot of fun and so very nice. They sure have a way of getting everyone involved. The food-- well if you can't find something that you like then you have a problem. They have everthing you could imagine. The pool area is great and the rooms were nice. The cleaning staff was great, they only cleaned when you wanted them to. Our trip was so great that I will be returning with a friend in March 2009.

we just returned from our stay at riu ochos rios. we had a great time. the food was the best we have ever eaten on a caribbean vacation! the pools were great. the beach was beautiful. everything was constantly maintained. the entertainment was honestly the best we have ever seen on a vacation. the entertainers were personable and made sure you were having a great time. the only negative thing i would have to comment on was you could hardly ever get one dollar bills so you could tip the people that were outstanding. we would definately return to the riu.
