Overall: The resort was gorgeous. I can honestly say that this is the only hotel I have ever stayed where I felt I could have anything I wanted whenever I wanted it. The staff consider every guest their boss. We upgraded to a suite and we were glad we did. You get to eat in more restaurants, the rooms are larger and have a sitting area, the balcony is larger, the bathroom is bigger with a jacuzzi tub.Make sure to try the chicken at the Jerk Hut right away. We ate there everyday we were not on an excursion. Also, if you join the RIU Class loyalty program (FREE) you get 20% off the clothes in the gift shop on the beach that say RIU on them. P.S. If anyone has extra Frontline bring it for the few dogs that live on the beach. They are so sweet but are ridden with fleas.
The disappointment: There was a large group in for the week named ComDoc. (A company Xerox just bought) They were the most obnoxious and rude people I have ever met. Wherever they went they monopolized the whole area and had no consideration for other guests who had to pay for their vacation. The Comdoc people were having their yearly status quo trip. Everyday around 3 PM they flocked to the pool bar taking up every seat and bench available. They were loud and you hardly ever saw one of them leave the pool to use the rest room. It got to the point where all we had to do was look at them to know if they were the "Comdoc people". They were loud and all had the used car salesperson look to them.
LOVED IT!!!

Stayed at the riu april,2009 and had the best time of my life. My husband and I enjoyed everything from the food to the drinks to the entertainment. The staff was so friendly. This is a megga resort and was very clean top to bottom.Tipping is greatly appreciated, but not expected. The most beautiful place I have ever seen with some of the best drinks. Don't forget your singles and definitely use jamaica tours for all tours and excursions.

I love Jamaica and this was my first trip ti the Riu. We had a lot of issues getting towels (we had three in the room). It took a couple days for the phone service to work in the room and the $2/ call fee was a huge schocker> Do yourself a favor bring your cell phone and go to a digi cell dealer and purchase a sim card and use your own phone. The other disappointment was the lack of variety in the food, I was told it changes weekly, I am accustommed to some daily changes. The staff works hard, you can see that, some are more aggressive, single ladies wear a ring!!!
Very Irie

Enjoyed the RIU, our experience was very good. Food was good, grounds were excellent and the hospitatlity was good. Only downside was getting up at 7 am to stand in line for a dinner reservation daily if you wanted something other than buffet. Duns River -Cool Runnings is way to go, went to Ochi- cab from hotel expensive, but once there you can work better deals- bus stop right outside gate $1 US to town vs $30 US cab fare. If you are smoker bring cigarerttes $11 US per pack would stay again and would recommend to friends- this place put Sandals to shame.
Fantastic!

I had visited Jamaica last October and stayed in a "so-so" resort, so I was a little worried about going to Jamaica again for a friend's wedding. I was blown away by the Riu resort the moment I walked into the lobby. Lovely place, beautiful location, and the staff was very helpful and friendly.
Food was very good. Drinks were very tasty. I wished that they served some U.S beers, though. Rooms were very tidy and nicely decorated. You do hear some noise through the door, but not so much from your neighbors. Don't worry, you can always rest on the loungechair by the pool. The beach is very nice. The Entertainment crew was a lot of fun - I don't know where they get their energy.
I highly recommend this place. I was sad when I had to leave to go home.
