Great time for adults and kids

We went to Riu Ocho Rios from July 3 to July 7, because a close friend of mine was getting married there on July 6. I went with my partner. My friend was there with her now-husband and two kids, who are almost 10 and 2 1/2. Many of his family members were there, as well, as were her two siblings. Everyone had an absolutely great time! We used a shuttle to get to the hotel from the airport. It's a private van, unlike the other transportation companies who drop off passengers all along the way. The driver was FABULOUS and very informative! The resort is beautiful. It's far off the road, which was great. The lobby was beautiful, and the staff were helpful, although I found their persistence and 'attentiveness' a bit overwhelming at first. Checking in was smooth, and the staff help with the bags (I think you can turn them down, but, like I said, they're very persistent). You are also welcomed with either punch or rum punch. The room was GORGEOUS. We had a Jr. Suite, which was definitely worth the extra money, and allows you to go to a couple 'specialty restaurants,' which were great. The pools were beautiful, the staff were friendly, the food was fine in the buffet, and great in the restaurants. Lunch was a bit challenging, and the breakfast buffet was good. The only negatives were that there were very pushy sales people on the beach and near the pool, and they wouldn't leave you alone. Also, it rained one night and the floors were SO slippery that it was treacherous. The wedding was beautiful, and very personal. Nobody pressured for tips. The tour buses come directly to the hotel. It was great, and I'd highly recommend it.

My husband, myself, and a couple of friends and family members stayed at the Rui Ocho Rios for 4 days May 29 - June 1, 2009. The food was excellent. The grounds and the beach were beautiful. However, the front desk staff were overworked (need more help at the front desk for such a big resort) as they were not able to respond in a timely manner to requests made by the guests. Our room door key did not work after the first day and it took us an entire day to resolve that issue. Our room smelled moldy (the room itself was clean but there was a moldy odor). We did complain about the odor and housekeeping came up and sprayed the room, but the smell returned after a couple of hours. We did not have washcloths until late in the day on most days. There were never enough beach towels (if you go to the beach after 2pm, do not expect to get towels). We found the support staff (housekeeping, dining room) to be friendly and helpful.

Recommend this place! Loved it.

The people were friendly, the rooms were outstanding and cleaned daily. Fully stocked bar in room. Pools were immaculate. The food was great, not outstanding, but a huge variety! The people were all humorous and friendly. Even if you met one of the staff only once, they would walk up to you and ask you how you are doing and if all was ok. We stayed for nine days. Only two drawbacks: 1- the internet in the lobby is a crap shoot. Sometimes you could get online, other times not. 2. The specialty restaurants required reservations and you had to stand in line in the morning to make reservations for that evening. The line started forming before 7am and the reservations didn't even open until 8am. Every morning there were long lines. Oh, the entertainment is entertaining, but nothing to write home about. Otherwise, no complaints. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and felt we lacked nothing!

All-Inclusive is the way to go

The entire hotel was beautiful and the beach was wonderful. We stayed in a junior suite which was great. They even had a liquor dispenser in the room and stocked the fridge with drinks and it was all included. The buffets were great and they changed slightly every day. It was difficult to make reservations for the sit down dinners and you have to go down at 7 am to do so. They offered live entertainment every night and the beach party on saturday is a must with the fire dancers. There is also a watersports area that offers snorkeling, boat rides, and diving for an additional charge. There are also tour agents at the hotel all day so you can arrange for any type of tour that you want and they will pickup and drop you back off at the hotel. Everything about the hotel made the trip more relaxing and worry free.
